“NATO has a new force ready to respond to any contingency at a moment’s notice. The Allied Reaction Force (ARF) is currently being tested & certified at Exercise STEADFAST DETERRENCE 2024 (STDC24). STDC24 offers the first opportunity to exercise non-Article 5 #deterrence & peacetime vigilance utilizing the new NATO Force Model (NFM). "This exercise sets the benchmark for NATO’s enhanced readiness & responsiveness to confront emerging security challenges. It will also sharpen the Alliance’s understanding of #multidomain operations, including its ability to coordinate military & non-military instruments of power within the organization & with other security providers, including national authorities and other international organizations. "This exercise has been planned & developed over the last 12 months, in coordination with the Norwegian authorities. It will offer the training audiences the opportunity to immerse in a realistic & challenging scenario, and work hard to achieve their training objectives. NATO is growing stronger through the daily engagement of its men and women.” - STDC24 Chief Scenario #WeAreNATO Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) NATO Rapid Deployable Corps - Italy (NRDC-ITA) NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT)

Grand Quadriga 2024 exercise for NATO June 1, 2024 The Grand Quadriga 2024 (QUAD24) exercise, led by Germany, took place in Lithuania with the participation of troops from France, Lithuania and the Netherlands for now. The objective of this military exercise is to strengthen NATO's deterrence and defense by improving command and control, readiness and rapid response capabilities. QUAD24 is part of the large-scale NATO exercise called Steadfast Defender 2024 (STDE24), which involved 90,000 troops from all 32 NATO Allied countries. STDE24 demonstrated NATO's ability to defend all of its territory and the Allies' commitment to protecting each other from any threat. It is important to underline that these exercises are defensive in nature and are not aimed at a specific country, but serve to demonstrate preparedness against potential aggression.

Interconnection Between NATO, the West, and MNCs The relationship between NATO, Western governments, and MNCs can be seen as mutually reinforcing:Security for Economic Interests: NATO's military capabilities are often utilized to protect Western economic interests globally. For example, NATO interventions may be justified on the grounds of ensuring stability in regions rich in resources or strategic trade routes that are vital for MNC operations . Defense Contracts: MNCs involved in defense contracting benefit from NATO operations through contracts for military supplies and services. This creates a cycle where military expenditures support corporate profits while ensuring that MNCs remain influential in shaping defense policies

Although military exercises have imposed pressure on Taiwan, such as China’s “Joint Sword-2024B” exercise, they also present opportunities for us to strengthen our capabilities in facing these challenges. Every stress test offers a chance to enhance our defense readiness. Drawing from Israel’s experience, we must develop and improve our Home Front Command system to raise public awareness and ensure civilian safety. This includes providing real-time security alerts, tailored recommendations for action, and guidance on locating the nearest shelters. Moreover, China’s series of military drills may prove counterproductive, as they heighten Taiwan’s vigilance and foster increased cooperation among neighboring countries, such as the U.S., Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines. We are witnessing the gradual emergence of a 'West-Pacific security alliance.' China should carefully consider whether these military maneuvers are truly achieving their intended goals. Taiwan will continue to strengthen its cooperation with allies. While military actions often have negative consequences, these effects ultimately serve to bind and solidify the unity within this alliance. Therefore, now is the time for us to initiate our own defense drills in response to these hostile exercises. As the saying goes, it is better to be prepared than sorry. #TaiwanSecurity #RegionalStability #Solidarity

“Norway, as one of the Host Nations for NATO Exercise STEADFAST DETERRENCE 2024 (#STDC24), supports the Allied Reaction Force (ARF) with a response cell, replicating the operational and the strategic level. Role players from the Norwegian total defence concept, including the Police and the Directorate for Civilian Protection (DSB) add important value to the overall complexity of the exercise. Furthermore, focusing on the Nordic region, cooperating alongside Sweden and Finland adds new perspective and issues for the ARF and NATO to consider. NATO Rapid Deployable Corps - Italy (NRDC-ITA) is well prepared and with JWC facilitating the exercise, the ARF is given maximum value from all the opportunities presented. Norway supports Allied training in Norway and the importance of NATO cohesion.” - STDC24 Norwegian Response Cell Chief #WeAreNATO Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) Direktoratet for samfunnssikkerhet og beredskap (DSB) Swedish Armed Forces Puolustusvoimat - Försvarsmakten - Finnish Defence Forces NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT)

Intelligence reports indicate that over 400,000 new recruits have joined the Russian military in 2024 alone, a 45% increase from the previous year. This includes both conscripts and volunteers, with many opting for higher salaries and advanced training opportunities. The focus has been on expanding elite units such as the Russian Airborne Troops (VDV) and the Wagner Group, which are being reinforced with experienced personnel. Additionally, the 8th Combined Arms Army and 90th Guards Tank Division are receiving new soldiers to bolster frontline operations in Ukraine. Russia is also recruiting heavily from its remote regions, particularly Siberia and the Far East, which historically have been underrepresented. This new intake is being trained in modern warfare tactics, including urban combat and hybrid warfare. The surge in recruitment is enabling Russia to sustain its military operations without significant losses in combat effectiveness, despite ongoing sanctions. These increased troop numbers and the rapid expansion of specialized units are raising alarms for NATO. With a 15-20% increase in Russia’s military manpower in critical zones, NATO may face a longer and more intense conflict in Ukraine and possibly Eastern Europe. The accelerated readiness of Russia’s Spetsnaz and airborne units suggests preparations for covert and high-intensity operations, which could destabilize the region further. In conclusion, the surge in Russian recruitment, combined with the rapid expansion of elite units, is a serious challenge for NATO. The West must prepare for a prolonged conflict with an increasingly capable Russian military.
