We just finished "Securing Our Future: How AI Is Transforming Public Safety" with Mahesh Saptharishi, EVP and CTO, Motorola Solutions; Patrick Huston, Brigadier General, US Army (ret.); and Michael Kearns, Professor of Computer and Information Science, University of Pennsylvania. This conversation covered lots of ground, so here are some highlights! 🧠 Motorola Solutions is saving lives by bringing AI translation capabilities to 911 calls in the United States. Saptharishi says it's important for companies to ensure that “with AI, people actually maximize their potential under all circumstances” and that the technology enables humans to be the primary help to other humans. 🧠 “The secret is to combine humans and machines in ways that leverage the respective strengths of both," Huston says. 🧠 Kearns points out that while it's good to have laws and regulations for AI, solving issues should start from their creation. “It's much much better to fix the problem in the first place than it is to litigate it in the courts after the problems have already been inflicted.” #FCMostInnovative

Good news coming out of Pittsburgh's East End, as Tuomas Sandholm and Andrew Moore, both former Carnegie Mellon University professors, now lead AI companies that are enhancing Pittsburgh's defense technology sector. Sandholm's company, Strategy Robot, employs AI to provide strategic advice to the Pentagon, while Moore's Lovelace AI focuses on national security and disaster relief. Their close proximity to Washington D.C. and CMU’s top-ranked AI program positions them uniquely for this work. Strategy Robot recently expanded, leasing space in an area marketed as "AI Avenue," aimed at attracting and retaining talent and businesses.
