Unlike cargo trucks or city buses, they operate only a few hours per day while picking up and dropping off students. That leaves plenty of time for them to plug in and soak up #OffPeak #Electricity in the #middle of the day — including the #SurplusSolarPower that floods California’s grid when it’s #sunny out — and discharge it in late afternoons and evenings, when California’s grid faces its most severe imbalance of supply and demand." #EVs and #electrification are going to break the #grid!!!... #LOL!

Kudos to Alexander Coologeorgen, David Cohn, and their colleagues at Sargent & Lundy for the Storer Coachways School Bus Electrification Project in California! In my opinion, this EV configuration (if I understand the project correctly) is good 'engineering' common sense and is a great integrated Solar PV/Electric Vehicle application. Using solar-PV to charge battery packs during the day that subsequently charge the school bus EVs at night for their daily routes the next day is fantastic. As noted in the write-up, the system also provides storage and strengthens overall Grid reliability and resilience when the bus fleet is not in use.
