How I gained over £700 of passive income in my freelance writing business ✨ Ok, that’s a slightly clickbait-y headline, but bear with me! If you write anything professionally in the UK - books, articles, scripts, essays - make sure you’re signed up to ALCS. Lots of writers still don’t know about this, or think their work is exempt. It might not be. The Authors’ Licensing and Collection Society collects royalties for writers when their work is copied or licensed. ALCS takes a small cut for collecting this money and pays the rest directly to you, with two payment dates per year. (I just got my March statement, hence this post!) All you have to do is sign-up, register details of your bylined work on your profile, and hopefully you’ll start receiving payments from the next payment run. (You can see details about what kinds of work is eligible on their website.) It’s not going to make you rich (I tend to get around £200 a year, but some writers get lots more), but with the crazy cost of everything lately, it can be a big help. If you’re not signed up, I’ve left the link in the comments below. (This isn’t a sponsored post or anything, I just really don’t want my fellow writers to be leaving free money on the table! 💸 ) -- #WritingTips #FreelanceWriter #FreelanceWriter #FreelanceJournalist #FreelanceFinance

One of the worst mistakes you will ever make in a freelance writing career is not focusing on your portfolio. As years pass, it will be your portfolio that will showcase your journey through content writing. Your portfolio is proof of your hard work, your talent, and your journey, it deserves your love and time. #journeyoffreelancewriting
