Five Common Mistakes to Avoid When Using AI in the Real World I've observed a few recurring mistakes in my experience using and integrating AI systems. Here are what I consider the top 5. 1️⃣ Providing Too Little Context 🧩 AI thrives on context. If you think you've provided enough information, add more. Lack of context can lead to misunderstandings and suboptimal outputs. 💡 "Summarize this document" ➡️ "You are a market researcher, with a deep experience in multiple sclerosis. Summarise this article, identifying the most important implications for the commercial teams of an injectable therapy" 2️⃣ Failing to Iterate and Validate 🔄 Don't just take the first output at face value. Ask the AI to refine and validate its results. Iteration is crucial for improving accuracy and relevance. 💡 "Write a market research survey" ➕ (separate chat) "Somebody wrote the following market research survey to understand the real-life impact of chronic insomnia on patients with mild depression.Please improve it." ➕ (separate chat) "Is this survey consistent with clinical definitions of insomnia and quality-of-life metrics? Please provide sources." 3️⃣ Neglecting Data Quality 📊 AI is only as good as the data it’s trained on. Ensure your data is clean, accurate, and comprehensive. Poor data quality leads to poor AI performance. 💡 Upload key documents from the past by configuring custom GPTs or using vector stores to have the information available for the AI. 4️⃣ Overlooking Integration with Existing Processes 🔌 AI should enhance your current processes, not disrupt them. Ensure that the outputs are aligned with the way you work. Provide examples and context. 💡 "Here is a summary we developed in the past of a research poster. Develop a similar summary for this research poster, replicating tone, format, and approximate length" 5️⃣ Ignoring User Training and Education 🎓 Even the best AI tools require user training. Why hybrid (AI+Human) approaches is a winning card in healthcare? Recently, as the CEO of Twig Health, I have been asked a few times which industries will benefit most from hybrid approaches. From my experience, industries that rely heavily on empathy and human connection, with healthcare leading the way, stand to gain significantly from this model. When dealing with personal and emotional issues, most individuals prefer human interaction over engaging with even the most advanced AI/bot systems. This preference likely stems from our intrinsic social cognitive drivers that necessitate genuine human connection. The adage "humans are social animals" underscores this point, emphasizing that true social interaction involves human-to-human relationships, not human-to-bot interactions. A hybrid approach, which combines AI with the empathy and nuanced understanding of humans, creates a synergistic, win-win scenario. This approach enhances the capabilities of healthcare providers, allowing for more personalized and empathetic care while leveraging AI to manage data and provide insights that enhance decision-making/operations. What about the future? I believe it will require a significant psychological change within us (humans) to enable us to include bots as part of our social/empathy circle. It may happen, but this is a cognitive advancement/regress within humans, not an AI or technology issue. #ai
