Things I used to enjoy now leave me unsettled; songs, shows, and even books. Content I used to be okay with consuming now does not sit well with my spirit (I guess you could call it a spiritual intolerance haha). Click the link to read more! 3rd November: Pet Peeves Small irritations. Little annoyances. Mischievious individuals who pacifically say advocado and expresso. People who confidently sing the wrong lyrics to songs, especially from musicals. Mansplaining, especially men who come up to me at the end of a comedy gig to share old jokes they wish I’d told and then say “You can have that one!” Racists who think they are experts on worlds they’ve never entered, that’s a total peeve. Maths - except on Countdown. Office items which talk about being mad to work in that environment. TV remote controls running out of batteries, forcing you back to the prehistoric 70s when you had to get up to change channels. Taking a sip of a drink that you think is water, only to find that it’s elderflower cordial. The Married at First Sight UK “experts”, never have I used a term more loosely. Actually, now I think about it, that’s a massive huge peeve. When someone decides to offer unhelpful help that you can’t refuse because rudeness is such a peeve. The word peeve. It wasn’t when I started writing this, but it is now. And I hate it when books, shows, movies, or conversations don’t have a proper ending, I want the threads to be drawn together, I need a concrete conclusion, that sort of thing is really #writingchallenge

Humor is a powerful tool within literary works. Yet, 'comedy-fiction' does not even make for a genre. In literature, #comedy has remained as an element between otherwise serious themes. No outright comedy has won the #Booker Prize, as far as I know, as it typically focuses on #literaryfiction. However, some Booker Prize-winning novels incorporated elements of #humor alongside their serious themes. "The Finkler Question" by Howard Jacobson (2010) and "Milkman" by Anna Burns (2018, dark humor) are the only two examples I can think of. Happy to be corrected, if I am wrong. "A Confederacy of Dunces" by John Kennedy Toole won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction (1981). India has a rich tradition of comedic literature, but few authors are known for their 'serious' contributions to comedy. Other than the witty, grassroot humour of #RuskinBond and R. K. Narayanan, I have grown up on Bengali authors like Sukumar Ray, Narayan Gangopadhyay, Shibram Chakraborty and many others who lighted up my holidays with laughter. Clean humour. Recently Twinkle Khanna and my dear friends Kiran Manral and Richa S. Mukherjee has employed comedy wonderfully in their writings. Often considered non-serious and frivolous, comedy does not really receive its deserving importance in literature! Generously awarded and popularized globally are the stories of wars and other misfortunes, systematically influencing the intellectual audience to trust less and distance more. Recently, some awards have been designed to specifically celebrate and encourage comedy in literature. Like Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize (named after the renowned comic writer P.G. Wodehouse) and Thurber Prize for American Humor are two that I could trace. Consider selecting comedy and humour for your #TBR, guys. We badly and desperately need humour, at a time when we have learnt to get angry for nothing! Choose laughter for your hearts. And if you have read any book of late, which got you rolling, please feel free to recommend! . . . . . #koraldasgupta #koraldasguptabooks #bookrecommendations

Not what I expected. It happens a lot. Whenever you listen to music or watch a film, it's rarely what we expect. This book is no different. #meditations #marcusaurelius #meditation #selfhelpbooks #selfhelp #stoic #stoicism #stoicphilosophy #philosophy #bookclub #bookreview #selfcare

What if everything you did was driven by the thinking "act as if?" She’s here! by @Seth Godin Some restaurants keep a photo of the local reviewer in the kitchen. The thinking is that if someone notices she’s in the building, everyone can up their game. And some musicians wait eagerly for A&R person to be in the crowd. If they really kill it tonight, a record deal might ensue. The most resilient approach, of course, is to act as if. What if this is your most important post, or your last one? What if the email you’re sending is going to be forwarded to your boss? What if… We can’t know for sure. But we can act as if it’s going to happen.

"There are not more than five musical notes, yet the combinations of these five give rise to more melodies than can ever be heard. There are not more than five primary colors (blue, yellow, red, white, and black), yet in combination they produce more hues than can ever be seen. There are not more than five cardinal tastes (sour, acrid, salt, sweet, bitter), yet combinations of them yield more flavors than can ever be tasted." 💡In the context of the book, the quote points out that a great leader can never run out of resources, and that there are infinite battle strategies. 💡Seen in a different light, I believe that it beautifully illustrates the inexhaustible nature of #creativity, and reminds us that endless possibilities can be brought about from simple elements. #Books #Quotes #TheArtOfWar #Insights

It took us more than 2 years to get published. I couldn't have done it if I hadn't got in with the right crowd. I'm so happy that I don't want to pinch myself to get up 🥰 The Present laughter, written by Nowel Coward, is a light comedy describing a few days of Gary Essendine's life, who is a famous comedy actor, before he goes on a tour to Africa. Meanwhile he has to calm down his wife and secretary, deal with his lovers, and get rid of an eccentric young writer. the book is available on https://lnkd.in/dgC_xAGU
