The GOLD STANDARD in dementia care You can adapt the gold standard in dementia care by simply making some changes to your current system of delivery. If you are not adapting to the new gold standard in dementia care, you may be left behind and keep moving further into an obsolete delivery system. For those who want to move forward, are more visionary with providing a more humanistic delivery of care, the International Caregivers Association wants to have a chat with you at a mutually convenient time. The TDI (Transactional Dementia Intelligence) business model is the creation of Dr. Ethelle Lord at the ICA. Do not delay and stay ahead of the curve! Another insightful blog from my colleague Tanya Clover on Dementia Care Mapping™ (DCM™)! Here are some powerful takeaways that resonated with me: 📊 In simple terms, our data shows that we have listened, tried harder, done better. 🪞 What struck me most was the metaphor of DCM™ as a mirror to our care settings - reflecting the unvarnished truth of what's really happening, not just what we believe is happening. As the blog beautifully puts it: 💫 "If we are to use the reflection to make change, it must be a true reflection, without distortion or bias. We must accept its truth, warts and all." 💡 These words remind us that real improvement in dementia care starts with honest observation and the courage to embrace what we see - both the successes and the areas needing change. #DementiaCare #Healthcare #QualityImprovement #PersonCentredCare #DCM #ProfessionalDevelopment What are your thoughts on using observation tools to improve care quality? https://lnkd.in/gUgj-xgK

Quality of care — Quality of life I’ve been following the work of Teun Toebes and the effort at reframing how to think about and approach the experience of dementia. I saw a clip today that struck me as a wonderful example for how the framing of something absolutely can shift and change the way we fund, approach, and measure actual impact. Who and what is centered? The thrust of the argument Teun was making in this clip was that quality of care has become the ultimate goal of engaging with people living with dementia, and that it is actually problematic. Not that care isn’t important, just that making it the ultimate goal means we haven’t set the goal high enough. We stop there. Making the goal quality of life? Now that’s a very different goal. Care will absolutely be a part of that, however it won’t be the only thing and it won’t be enough. “Because if care remains the starting point, then people will continue to be made into residents, clients, patients.” He goes on to say that dementia is not a care issue, it’s a society issue. This is a very big and complex space, and I know first-hand how challenging it is to see and support your loved ones as they go through such experiences. It’s a reminder of how powerful framing can be. When we set a bar, or we describe something in a particular way, we absolutely set a direction of response that can be more detrimental even with the best of intentions. In this instance, it’s having people with lived experience of all stages to shape the goal, not having a goal shaped for them. Change out any of the above for any topic. Shifting from… Access to independence. Reducing to eliminating. Medical to cultural. It goes on. #DesigningBetterFuturesTogether #HumanForever
Teun Toebes on Instagram: "Quality of life 💚 Good care is crucial to facilitate #qualityoflife. But, if care remains the starting point in our dealings with people with dementia, people continue to feel like they are being made into residents, clients or patients. And, thankfully, that really can be done differently. But care cannot do this alone; our society is desperately needed here. After all
