No finite set of #SLOs will detect every kind of failure event possible in a complex system. So when I'm defining a system's SLOs, I always try to make a list of hypothetical failures that would fall *outside* of the proposed coverage. Some of the kinds of things that show up on these lists: – A small but critical class of queue jobs gets stuck in an infinite retry loop – The service starts serving broken responses, but they're code 200 and generated quickly – A handful of customers start getting timeouts from the API because of some idiosyncrasy of the requests they send Generally any one of these things _could_ be caught by adding another SLO, but that's not the point. The point is to be realistic about your coverage. #sre #devops #monitoring

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐈 𝐝𝐨 𝐢𝐟 𝐦𝐲 𝐬𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐧'𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐚𝐝? If your software project slows down or crashes after it's launched because of too many users, there aren't many options to fix it. Based on our experience, to avoid these problems when launching the system, it's important to carefully plan its structure right from the start. Read how we do it in our recent blog post - https://lnkd.in/eZ6Psu4e #SoftwareDevelopment #SystemArchitecture #StressTesting #PerformanceOptimization #Scalability #LoadTesting #SystemAudit #CodeQuality #TechSolutions #DeveloperTips #ITConsulting #SoftwareEngineering #DevOps #TechSupport #ProjectPlanning

🚨 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐚 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐢𝐝𝐧’𝐭 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝?🚨 I recently came across an interesting scenario while managing a Kubernetes deployment. Everything seemed to be running smoothly until a client reached out—they couldn’t access a critical service. 😨 Turns out, one of my pods was stuck, not 𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠, not 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠, but simply not taking any new requests. It wasn’t until the client mentioned it that I realised the issue. Classic case of "everything looks fine... but it’s not!" 💡 𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝: To avoid this in the future, I implemented liveness and readiness probes in Kubernetes. 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐞: This probe checks if the pod is still running properly. If it gets stuck again, the liveness probe will automatically restart it, ensuring minimal downtime. 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐞: This one ensures that only healthy pods are in the load balancer pool, preventing broken services from accepting requests. 💥 The result? The next time a pod gets stuck, Kubernetes will handle it like a pro—restarting the pod and getting it back online before a client notices anything is wrong. 👉 Have you ever experienced a "silent" failure in your services? How did you handle it? #Kubernetes #DevOps #LivenessProbe #ReadinessProbe #CloudComputing #SRE
