Please consider a donation to NAMI this #GivingTuesday. Why? Because we're Building the Future of Mental Health! The kids are not alright. That’s why, this year, our focus is on youth mental health. We all know that education and early intervention are crucial to improved mental health recovery outcomes, and NAMI, in partnership with the Bucks County Department of Behavioral Health, has been providing mental health education to students in grades six through twelve in nearly every Bucks County school district for over twelve years. That’s great, right? It is, but together, we can do more. Our Youth Programs Director, Mia Scocozzo, noticed that some middle-schoolers, after seeing a NAMI Ending the Silence presentation, would approach her and say, “I wish I had known about NAMI before my hospitalization in elementary school.” Mia, a former middle school teacher, got to work writing and designing an age-appropriate mental health curriculum for students in grades kindergarten through fifth based on literacy level that focuses on naming emotions, then provides basic resources and skills to cope with and manage them. Calling on my LinkedIn community for help! On October 11, we’re hosting the Notes of Friendship Benefit Concert in Downtown Woodstock and looking for supportive businesses to get involved. We're $9,000 away from reaching our fundraising goal for Erin’s Hope for Friends (EHFF), a small but mighty nonprofit that supports teens and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder. If you know businesses or individuals who might be interested, please connect them with me! Your help can make a huge difference! 😍 Sponsorship Guide: https://lnkd.in/ekpPHMGP We also have opportunities for individuals to support—bring friends and buy a table, or purchase a seat to donate so someone served by the organization can enjoy the concert! ------------ About Erin's Hope for Friends: Erin’s Hope for Friends (EHFF) is a local nonprofit with a mission close to our hearts: fostering meaningful friendships and support systems for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Since 2016, our E’s Club has provided over 5,000 teens and young adults with a safe and welcoming environment to connect, be themselves, and build lasting relationships without fear of judgment or social isolation. Friendships are significant for individuals with ASD. Unfortunately, 60% of them experience bullying, with high schoolers targeted most often. These experiences may lead to anxiety, depression, social isolation, and even suicidal thoughts. Providing these individuals the opportunity to make friends in a supportive environment can significantly reduce these risks and enhance their overall well-being. Learn more: erinshopeforfriends.org

May I have a moment of your time? If so, please clear your mind and envision this... You’re a relatively new parent. Your child is struggling to understand the language, gestures, and/or social cues. S/he has a heightened sensitivity to light, sound, smell, taste, or touch. Hand flapping is a repetitive behavior. An intense concentration or focus on a particular activity is a constant. A slight change in routine may cause what is deemed by strangers to be an excessive meltdown, yet it’s just another day... Scary? Yes. Unrealistic? 1 in 36 sets of parents wouldn’t say so. This is the reality of parents of autistic children. Now, many of these parents who have pioneered raising autistic children for the past three decades are facing a crucial inflection point: Almost 1,000,000 adults with autism will age into adulthood over the next decade and begin aging out of support services in the U.S. 70% never leave home for lack of options 90% of adults with autism are unemployed or underemployed This year will be my 13th Bike to the Beach, a 100-mile ride from Manhattan to Long Island. I’ve spent the past 1200+ miles dedicating my efforts to my brother Brendan who was diagnosed in 1992, but it’s time to acknowledge and try to help alleviate some of the burdens on the parents through the creation and funding of services and programs for these autistic children entering adulthood. If you only give once a month, please think of me this time. The support of the parents, children, and adults in need will be meaningful. I may not have achieved my fundraising goal yet, but I thank you for helping it happen. https://lnkd.in/gdQnPYJz

"According to a recent report from the Boston Consulting Group, 77% of youth in South Carolina with a major depressive episode do not receive any mental health treatment. This is well above the national average of 60%. In 2021, leading organizations declared a National State of Emergency in children’s mental health. Additionally, in 2022, the mental health counselor-to-student ratio 2022 was 1:1,300 in South Carolina. Charleston Hope’s journey began in 2011 when executive director Emily Kerr brainstormed from her kitchen table how she could help enact real change. Since then, Charleston Hope has grown exponentially, thanks to the unwavering support of community members. This year alone, Charleston Hope expects to provide more than 1,000 hours of mental health support to students."
