December brings not only the shortest day and longest night but also major holidays of light. The winter solstice is Saturday, December 21st; Christmas Eve is Tuesday, December 24th, followed by Christmas on Wednesday, December 25th; while the eight days of Hanukkah also begin at sundown on Wednesday, December 25th; and Kwanzaa on Thursday, December 26th through Wednesday, January 1st bring us into the New Year. All of these holidays involve lighting candles and exchanging gifts.
