For the next edition of the MAISON&OBJET trade fair, matériO’, the famous cabinet of curiosities on materials, will share its love for all types of materials with its new exhibition “PRECIOUS MATTER”. Behind this title, we are not going to talk about the classic precious metals like gold, silver or platinum, nor certain stones like diamonds, rubies, topazes... No! we have chosen to magnify all the materials present on earth. The materials of our daily life, the resources of convenience, common and available. From the most boring piece of wood to vilified plastic, including those we call waste or scraps. Because indeed, all materials are precious, without exclusion. Only now does humanity realize that all resources from this planet, whatever they may be, are limited. Our voracity is gradually making them scarce, and therefore precious. All the materials shown here have different stories, particular qualities, diverse and varied futures and potentialities. It is necessary to approach them through their complexity to grasp their true value, and to respect them, to preserve them, to repair, to re-use, to recycle, to focus on saving them. That is why it is essential to use them wisely, with intelligence and measure. An exhibition to get out of the Manichean and sterile dichotomy between good and bad materials, for a more fruitful reflection on the good and bad uses of this PRECIOUS MATTER. Press release on request.
