Spoiler alert: They landed the Director of Sales role. 🙌 Today's Grati-Nug (gratitude nugget) comes from someone who already had great interview skills. I would know, since I hired them and helped get them promoted at one point! They were recently part of a round of layoffs and were focused on getting initial interviews. Turns out that interviewers often look at your LinkedIn well before they ever look at your resume. Here are 3 quick things you can do to make a good first impression: 1. Use your LinkedIn banner as the BILLBOARD for "you". Google "free LinkedIn banner builder" and show hiring managers what you're about in 2 seconds. Check out Matt Stone's profile for a great example of this. 2. Add Skills, Media, and a Description to each of your work experiences. Hint: Not sure which skills are relevant? Open up 4 attractive job postings and look at the desired skillsets. See what overlaps, and add those specific skills to your relevant experiences. 3. Ask for LinkedIn recommendations from your leaders, peers, clients, and colleagues. Hint: Do NOT send the generic message. Customize your request and offer reciprocity. Sales Interview Pro Tip: Did you know there's a setting on LinkedIn that might be stopping you from connecting with recruiters and hiring managers... There's a option in settings where you can require someone attempting to connect with you to input your email address before they can send you a connection request. What if they don't know your email address? Then they can't send you a connection request or message. If you are open to work and actively seeking your next opportunity, PLEASE make sure that your settings are updated where this isn't the case. Not open to work? Fine. I get it. There's all sorts of spam and people selling stuff on here and it's a way to keep your inbox clean. But if you want to connect with recruiters or hiring managers, make sure that setting is off. #FridayThoughts 📌 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 are so key in the Recruiting Industry. Look, we are all humans and have the ability to make choices that are most beneficial to our careers, personal/family life, etc. We will never pressure someone into making a decision or going in a certain direction, just provide our perspective. 📌 Have seen a trend recently of candidates getting offers and//or confirmed for on-site interviews and then (poof) no-showing or disappearing with no notice or communication. Things happen and people/clients understand as long as there is some level of communication. 📌 People aren't mad if you take another offer or something comes up personally where you need to reschedule an interview. Takes < 1 minute to send a text, email, or quick call to communicate. ✔ Side note. Companies have ATS//CRM systems where candidate info, notes, etc are logged. In a highly relationship driven business, it is not advantageous to burn bridges or leave things unprofessionally. ✔ Chances are if someone has ghosted or not communicated, and is affected by layoffs or back on the market, that will certainly factor in to the ability or desire to partner down the road. “Listen, take this with a grain of salt…” is what I usually lead with on resume/interviewing advice… Not because I’m unconfident. But because there’s no standard across recruiting for what sales recruiters look for. I’ve always tried to keep it as direct as possible with the 5 things I know “most” sales recruiters are initially curious about. But honestly, you could talk to three different recruiters in the same day and all three might give you different advice. Weird world. Golf instruction is the same way (fun fact). Sales Resume Pro Tip: "Who are you selling to?" Recruiters obviously want to know this... There's a couple of great ways to put it on a resume to keep me reading. But the most direct way is... After the "what are you selling?" bullet points I shared about earlier this week, type out in bold, "Selling To". I want to know: - Types of organizations - What specific stakeholders at those organizations Add a bullet, "Industries" (or something similar) and list out the types of orgs Follow that with another bullet, "Stakeholders", and list out who you're selling to at the orgs (CXO, VP, Director, etc.) Now, in about 7 seconds I'll know: - What you're selling - What challenges you're solving - Who you're selling to I hope this is helpful.
