Yesterday, got a text from a friend - a technical founder and exceptional engineer - who spent over 2 weeks writing custom authentication system for his product when proven solutions like Clerk or Supabase Auth would have taken an afternoon to implement. The irony. A classic engineering trap: The smarter you are, the more sophisticated your time-wasting becomes. Here's why this mindset can derail your startup: - While you're perfecting infrastructure, your competitors are gaining ground.  - A flawless setup is worthless if your product doesn't solve user pain points.  - "Good enough" tech that drives revenue > perfect tech that doesn't. What Really Moves the Needle - Getting your product in front of users ASAP.  - Gathering unfiltered feedback—even when it stings.  - Testing if people are willing to pay for what you're building.  - Moving fast and iterating faster. The Golden Rule For an early stage startup, if the tech reliably works and brings in revenue, it's perfect enough. And everything else?
