Chipotle Introduces Robot Worker, Claims It Will 'Improve Employee Efficiency.' Chipotle has partnered with food industry automation studio Vebu to put collaborative robots in Chipotle restaurants. Chipotle's first cobot, "Autocado," joined workers at the Huntington Beach, Calif. Chipotle for the first time Monday. Chipotle's partnership with Vebu is part of the chain's $100 million Cultivate Next venture fund. Cultivate Next makes early-stage investments into companies that can help accelerate Chipotle's plans to grow to 7,000 restaurants in North America. In Monday's press-release, Chipotle describes Autocado as an avocado processing cobotic prototype. In 2023, CaliExpress launched an autonomous worker that cooks, serves, and even prepares only with Robots and AI. It is located in Pasadena, California, US. This fast food restaurant collaborated with Miso Robotics, an engineering factory that focused on restaurant automation by Robots and AI. Their first patent-protected AI product Flippy is a smart commercial kitchen robot that can fry french fries and chicken nuggets with efficiency and quality. This collaboration made CaliExpress known as the first autonomous fast restaurant ever made. Although it has not officially launched, this innovation is taking fast food to the next level. Insights into peak waste times, frequently wasted items, plate compositions, and perceptions of quality have empowered data-driven decision-making, enabling us to streamline operations and minimize waste. Feedback has been at the heart of our collaboration. Our feedback system has facilitated over 50,000 interactions, fostering a culture of communication and community ownership in dining hall improvements. This engagement has led to a notable increase in student sentiment, as their input drives tangible improvements and reinforces our mutual commitment to sustainability. As we look ahead, our vision for the future is filled with possibilities. [Hanwha Foodtech acquires robot-powered Stellar Pizza] Hanwha Foodtech has acquired the US-based robot pizza brand, Stellar Pizza, as part of its efforts to drive technological innovation in the food service industry. In January, Hanwha Foodtech signed a memorandum of understanding with Serve Automation, the parent company of Stellar Pizza, for a transfer of assets. Contractual documents for the acquisition were finalized Thursday. The acquisition was facilitated by Hanwha Foodtech Global, the US subsidiary of Hanwha Foodtech, the company said Monday. The exact amount of the deal was not disclosed immediately. Serve Automation, founded in 2019 by engineers from SpaceX, is headed by Benson Tsai, a former SpaceX engineer responsible for the development of rocket and satellite battery systems. 한화푸드테크 intends to acquire all assets of Stellar Pizza, retaining key technicians and management executives, including Tsai.
