Is the driving test the big problem in terms of teaching people to drive and would we be better without it and a new approach to assessing people before they can drive on their own? A debate recently at an IMTD meeting when talking about teaching people to drive considered the point that the driving test was the biggest stumbling block to people learning to be drivers as the whole process was test centric and what get tested is what gets taught and yet it is not the skills which are lacking but the application of those skills and the knowledge and understanding which surrounds them. Whilst the UK test is highly regarded throughout the world it is focussed on being a fault finding exercise of basically the mechanical skills of manoeuvring and observation and lacks any assessment of driving on rural roads, in the dark or with passengers in the car and yet that is where our problems arise with newly qualified drivers.

ATP/CTP: What Low-Time Pilots Should Know About Covering the Cost of the Course ✈️ An Aviation Recruiter's Perspective... 👩💻 As with most of my posts, a pilot recently asked if it was typical for employers to pay for the ATP/CTP course. Here's my answer... If you are transitioning into the Part 135 world (I do not have experience in 121), it's important to understand the typical expectations around ATP/CTP course completion. 📌 Standard Practice: Most 135 operators expect pilots to complete the ATP/CTP course and written exam on their own. They’ll often cover the ATP check ride during a type rating training, but paying for the ATP/CTP course is rarely standard. 📌 Occasional Perks: In an employee’s market—when there are more jobs than qualified pilots—some operators may offer to pay for the ATP/CTP course as a perk. However, this is the exception, not the rule. Pro Tip: If you find an operator willing to cover the cost of the ATP/CTP course and exam, it’s a rare and valuable opportunity. Just be prepared that most operators will expect you to handle this step independently. Your Best Move? Get the course done, add “ATP Written Complete” to your resume, and set yourself apart as a prepared, proactive candidate. #PilotLife #AviationCareers #ATPCTP #Part135 #PilotJobs #AviationJobs
