Nominating a molecule as a candidate drug is a decision followed by significant investments. It also represents one of the points along a molecule’s development path where it’s crucial to assemble data spread across multiple teams and molecule generations. This challenging task is made even more difficult by the nature of discovery workflows, which are evolving processes themselves. Compared to most downstream processes discovery projects can be unpredictable, making them more difficult to structure in a way that facilitates retrospective data assembly and analysis. This is a challenge that I have discussed with many biopharma teams, and it is, perhaps, most evident in the handover between different project phases. Some would even say that there is a “culture clash” that becomes evident when transitioning a candidate molecule from early development into the more regulated processes. Do you agree?
