These once-traditional spaces are now becoming hubs of cutting-edge technology, enhancing surgical precision, modernizing medical practices, and transforming the way the space is used. Robotic Surgery Systems for Precision and Minimally Invasive Surgery One of the most significant advancements in operating suites is the integration of robotic surgery systems or robot-assisted surgery. Per the Mayo Clinic, these systems often include a camera arm and mechanical arms with surgical instruments attached to them. The surgeon controls the arms while seated at a control center, called a console, near the operating table. These systems, such as the da Vinci Surgical System, enable surgeons to perform minimally invasive procedures with unparalleled precision and control. It delivers 3D high-definition views and gives the surgeon a crystal-clear view of the surgical area that is magnified 10 times greater than the human eye sees

In 2020, surgeons carried out the first-ever spine surgery using an AR head-mounted display. The procedure was performed on a 78-year-old patient suffering from degenerative spine disease, requiring lumbar decompression and the insertion of multiple screws. Equipped with FDA-approved AR headsets, the surgeons visualized the patient’s CT scan in real-time during the operation, achieving an unprecedented level of precision with the placement of the implants, boasting an impressive 100% accuracy rate. Since then AR has been used for hundreds of surgeries, revolutionizing the medical industry. However, surgeries are not the only applications of the technology. Surgery in 3D powered by real-time data. Advancements in real-time data processing, transformation, and visualization are making AR surgeries a reality. The key lies in transforming patient data (often from CT scans) into a usable format for holographic displays. What follows is a multi-step process 👇 ---> Data Preprocessing: Raw CT scan data needs cleaning and filtering to remove noise and artifacts. ---> Segmentation: The relevant anatomical structures are identified and isolated from the surrounding tissue. ---> 3D Reconstruction: The segmented data is used to create a 3D digital model of the patient's anatomy. ---> Real-time Transformation: During surgery, the patient's position and movements are tracked. This information is used to continuously update the position and orientation of the 3D model in real-time, ensuring perfect alignment with the patient's body. ---> Holographic Projection: The final step involves converting the transformed 3D model into a format compatible with holographic displays, bringing the patient's anatomy to life in 3D. This innovative technology offers numerous benefits such as- > enhanced surgical precision > improved patient communication > revolutionized surgical training As the technology matures, we can expect even greater benefits like- integration with surgical robots and personalized surgery?
