𝐑𝐈𝐀 𝐂-𝐒𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐕𝐒 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐬…..The conflicts continue. Round 1! 👇. As the RIA space evolves and matures, one major issue keeps showing up. 👇. 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐌𝐚𝐱𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞. The challenge is that typically the RIA C-Suites (equity holders) and the RIA advisors often do this differently. RIA C-Suites do this by maximizing the value of the FIRM thereby maximizing the value of their equity. RIA Advisors do this by maximizing the value of THEIR PRACTICE. When the rubber meets the road these two things struggle to co-exist, as often the RIA C-Suites want to "tie in" the advisors to the firm to increase their valuation and the RIA advisors want to maximize the value of their independent practice by not being "captive". The good news is I've seen many circumstances where the RIA leaders are able to find a middle ground and restructure the firm in a way that benefits everyone. There are TONS of ways to do this. Simply put, if everyone gives a little aligning the needs of the Equity Holders and the Advisors can lead to a meaningful win for all parties. I'm 100% not picking on my C-Suites out there! This research has resonated strongly with everyone I've shared it with in professional services and investment banking. It looks at the specific behaviours and practices that differentiate the most successful - call them what you will; rainmakers, fee earners, business developers - from the rest. The researchers define five personas, easily identifiable to anyone who has worked in professional services. But here's the crunch: only one of these personas correlates positively with revenue generation, and that accounts for a mere one in five leaders they interviewed. It's no longer enough to do good work and hope your clients keep coming back. They have choices, you have competitors, and you need a structured and proactive approach to make a difference.
