Another “first” is in the books for Veralto. Drawing from our incredible heritage, I hosted Veralto’s first CEO Kaizen last week and what a week it was! Throughout my career, CEO Kaizen week has always been one of my favorite weeks of the year—a week where executives work as equals alongside operators to tackle some of the toughest business challenges to improve processes for associates and service to customers. The reason I love this week? There is an undeniable energy you experience when you go to gemba (the “real” place) you roll up your sleeves, and problem solve. When you gather a group of diverse people from various backgrounds and varied specialties and all focus on an important goal. When together we make breakthroughs and know we are transforming the business for the better. This year’s experience reaffirmed three key beliefs: 1) At Veralto, we are all practitioners of continuous improvement. My executive team members don’t just observe and coach our Veralto Enterprise System – we live it. And when we enter a kaizen, we shed our titles and work side by side with operators, sellers, engineers and other associates to do the work, whether laminating newly designed sales materials, laying out a new work cell, or mapping out a project plan with Post-it notes on the wall. 2) There is great power in try-storming. When you are engaged in focused activity to solve big problems, it is easy to develop hypotheses on how to solve them. Real learning comes from testing those hypotheses – and if they don’t work as expected, or unearth new, previously hidden insights, it’s important to pivot, apply the lessons, and try again. 3) Tackling big challenges is also great fun. Focused problem solving is hard, especially with the scale of the problems we work on during CEO Kaizen. In other business cultures, that experience could be overwhelming. But in a supportive environment, where everyone is encouraged to bring their best ideas and perspectives, there is also space for laughter and levity along with a sense of accomplishment at the end of the week. I am honored and humbled to have spent last week working alongside the hundreds of my colleagues who participated in the CEO Kaizen – either within the event or as consultants at gemba – and to everyone at Veralto for living the ethos of continuous improvement day in and day out. The truth is: kaizen isn’t just an event. It is a mindset and approach we bring to work every day, allowing our teams to continuously improve for enduring impact. A special thanks to the 150+ associates across six operating companies, five countries and 12 cities for living Veralto’s values and building a better business for customers and associates. #WeAreVeralto #LifeAtVeralto
