That's why the German Southwest is THE LÄND of promising ideas, new technologies and inventiveness 👇 A recently published study by the German Economic Institute (Institut der deutschen Wirtschaft) looks at the most patent-active German universities in the years 2017 to 2021. Aggregated by federal states, the universities from Baden-Württemberg are the most active with a total of 773.7 applications. 📜 Among other things, these universities benefit from the diversity of their inventors. This is shown, for example, by the fact that among the top 15 universities, almost one in four patent applications from the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen can be attributed entirely to women. And when it comes to patent applications by inventors with foreign roots, the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg (Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg) stands out in particular, with a reference value of 26.3 percent. That is seven percent more than the German average. On #NationalScienceDay I am reminded of the incredible legacy of Dr CV Raman. His discovery of the Raman effect for which he won the Nobel prize has provided the blueprint for many applications in various sectors. I remember speaking to a friend who explained how the Raman effect is applied in medical diagnostics to detect and analyze biological samples, including identifying diseases. It's fascinating to see these applications being integral to people worldwide. As part of a fraternity that promotes science education and helps students prepare for competitive exams, the core value lies in inspiring more individuals to pursue pure and applied sciences and expand their footprints in their fields. Today, we celebrate science and as educators, we are responsible for cultivating a sense of curiosity in budding students who want to solve problems that can contribute to improving human lives. We must keep this scientific temperament going and that’s something even non-science professionals like me can do to ensure our schools propagate this thought. I believe that eventually, we will bring a new wave of innovations and discoveries in modern-day science to establish India on the global map. Richard Henry Friend: Upcoming VinFuture Prize laureates to bring delightful surprises The VinFuture Prize, a Vietnam-based international award, has demonstrated its ability to identify groundbreaking scientific research, including those later honored by The Nobel Prize. Its fourth season, with nearly 1,500 nominations from over 80 countries, highlights its global reach and influence. Scientists Sir Demis Hassabis and Dr. John Jumper, recent Nobel laureates in Chemistry, have been in the spotlight before. Two years ago, they won the $500,000 VinFuture Prize for “Innovators with Outstanding Achievements in Emerging Fields”—not in Sweden, but in Vietnam. Is it a coincidence that the VinFuture Prize has twice anticipated Nobel winners? Perhaps.
