April 11th is always a big day for Young Onset Parkinson's Network. It is officially "World Parkinson's Day," serving as a way to raise awareness and advance research toward better therapies and a cure for Parkinson's disease. This year, we've created a video for our members, care partners, friends, and family to share with their social networks to help drive awareness for Parkinson's Disease, and more importantly for those with Young Onset Parkinson's. Together, we can help raise awareness with the government and private organizations to accelerate research, treatments, and ultimately a cure for Parkinson's Disease. You can take immediate action by contacting your State Senators and urge them to vote for the Bill to End Parkinson's. Already approved by the House, and currently "stuck" in the Senate, we all need to have our voices heard to push this through! Join organizations (such as YOPN), participate in Run/Walks, tell your story, volunteer your skills, or simply share this post to help spread the word of Young Onset Parkinson's Disease. We are kicking off April by raising awareness of #Parkinson's Disease. The Parkinson's Foundation has created the ABCs of #Parkinson's ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gEnv-gX We thought we would use the ABCs to spell our name and raise awareness: P - Parkinsonism is the collection of signs and movement symptoms associated with several conditions - including Parkinson's disease. R - #Parkinson's research can lead us to breakthroughs in treatment and care at any moment! I - Nearly 90,000 people will be diagnosed in the US with #Parkinson's this year. M - Motor fluctuations are changes in the ability related to medications. A - Anxiety, depression, vertigo, and more are symptoms not related to movement but are often more troublesome and disabling than movement symptoms. R - RESEARCH IS NEEDED! Y - Young-onset #Parkinson's occurs in people who are 50 years of age or younger who often experience a different set of challenges. R - RESEARCH IS VITAL! E - From small handwriting changes, loss of smell and trouble sleeping - know the 10 early signs of #Parkinson's. C - There are several stages to the care partner journey, just like #Parkinson's. O - #Occupational, #physical, and #speech therapies can slow disease progression, address symptoms, and improve mental health. R - HAVE YOU DONATED TO RESEARCH!? D - Finding out you have #Parkinson's can be a lengthy process. A diagnosis is made through a combination of in-office tests and diagnostic tools Make sure to click on the ABCs of #Parkinson's Disease! If #Parkinson's disease impacts you or your family, please find your amazing local chapter https://lnkd.in/g-G-zC6X for support!
