Entrepreneurs and tech startup founders should understand that shows like Shark Tank are better suited for traditional businesses or SMEs rather than innovation-driven companies. These shows prioritize entertainment over serious investment, often fail to deliver on-screen deals, and offer insufficient or undervalued funding for tech startups. Unlike venture capital (VC) firms and angel investors, who provide expertise, networks, and proper valuation, the sharks’ approach is ill-suited for complex, future-oriented tech investments. For real support, tech startups should turn to VCs or angel investors rather than relying on TV platforms designed for mainstream audiences.

U.S. startup funding surged in Q2 2024, but the number of deals fell sharply. This paradox highlights a crucial issue: a small number of large #AI investments are skewing the overall #data. Most concerning is the sharp drop in #funding for female-founded startups, both in terms of dollars and deal count, compared to last year and the peak in 2021. This decline suggests a loss of focus on diversity in venture capital funding. Additionally, The concentration of funding in major VC hubs like SF, NYC, LA, and Boston further underscores the need for a more dispersed and inclusive investment approach. Learn more about the current trends in Dan Primack’s article for Axios https://lnkd.in/duwNUv_K #VentureCapital #StartupFunding #DiversityInTech

The startups that go through Y Combinator's accelerator are launched into the investment market at eye-watering prices. This is particularly striking in H2 2023, coming off a real downturn for startup fundraising. Investor Erik Bruckner has reported $15 million post-money caps as the most common terms among the sample of startups he’s met from this batch, at a time when the median U.S. pre-seed valuation is closer to $8.7 million.
