A recent study shows that 54% of #MiddleEast CEOs have expressed a strategic vision towards a holistic, company-wide AI deployment, while 96% of global CEOS have already deployed AI in some form. It’s exciting to see how the Middle East is embracing key technological trends when it comes to AI adoption at the top level of the organization. Out of my conversations with business leaders in the region over the past months, here are some common characteristics I identified in those cases where CEOs were successful in their AI adoption: 1- They start with defining what the enterprise wants to achieve: They then ensure those goals are tightly coupled with strategy, and defining what specifically needs to change to make that vision a reality – and how AI fits in this model. 2- They develop the knowledge about the risks and exposures the organization will face on this journey: This includes privacy, accuracy, explainability, and bias. They then build the tools and processes to correctly identify, quantify, or manage these inherent risks. 3- They understand that success depends on experimentation and iteration: This challenges CEOs to rethink the operating model to promote cross organization understanding of generative AI, streamline the deployment process, and ensure that business benefits are realized. I believe we are at an infliction point for the role of the CEO in organizations today. This role has always had the toughest challenges, as well as the biggest opportunities, land at its desk for action. Today, generative AI is proving to be one such huge opportunity. How CEOs choose to adopt AI may be one of these defining moments for many organizations in the region to help them capitalize on their competitive advantages and improve the way they do business.
