In the ninth edition of its Hiwaraat (Arabic for Dialogues) series, Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) posed a crucial question: Can #AI be harnessed to save the world? The one-day event, titled “#AIUprising: Opportunities and Challenges for the Future of Work and its Impact on the Environment,” was thought-provoking and insightful. GU-Q succeeded in gathering an exceptional group of scientists and thinkers from around the world to tackle pressing issues such as the #ethics of AI in our #geopolitical context, promoting #sustainable development, #innovation to improve #humanity, and AI’s impact on #labormarket transformation. In addition to the inspiring opening remarks by Dean Safwan Masri, the event's highlight was the keynote addresses by two distinguished figures: Dr. Moriba Jah and Dr. Merritt Moore. I highly recommend checking with GU-Q to see if these very interesting speeches are available for public viewing. The event effectively raised critical questions and highlighted significant issues. Egypt Partakes in High-Level Forum on AI Egypt, represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), is participating in the High-Level Forum on Artificial Intelligence on June 3-5 in Rabat, Morocco.   The event is organized by the International Artificial Intelligence Center of Morocco (Ai Movement) of the University Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P), in partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).   Under the theme “AI as a Lever for Development in Africa,” the Forum will discuss key dimensions of the role of AI in digital transformation, the establishment of legal and regulatory frameworks to protect communities across Africa, and leveraging AI-enabled solutions and systems for social well-being and economic growth.   Moreover, the event will celebrate the approval by the 42nd Session of the UNESCO General Conference of the designation of Ai Movement as a center under the auspices of UNESCO (category 2).   The Forum will gather ministers and government representatives from the region, renowned panelists and experts, and strategic partners from the private sector. It provides a platform for partners and stakeholders to discuss regional and international cooperation in the field of AI.   It is worth noting that Egypt chairs the African AI Working Group.
