Leadership capability can't be separated from EVP. Here's why. Strong leadership is the cornerstone of a compelling Employee Value Proposition (EVP). Leaders shape the work culture, drive professional growth, and foster an environment where employees thrive. → When leaders invest in their own development, they inspire their teams to grow. → Effective leaders also prioritise work-life balance, understanding that a supported workforce is a productive one, and model the right behaviours. → They recognise the importance of purpose, connecting daily tasks to the broader mission of the organisation. → Inclusive leadership practices ensure that all voices are heard, driving innovation and engagement. And through regular recognition, leaders build a culture of appreciation and motivation. In the public sector, where mission-driven work is key, the role of leadership in shaping EVP is even more pronounced. By developing strong leadership capabilities, organisations can enhance their EVP and retain top talent. Transformational Leadership vs. Transactional Leadership: What's the Difference? When it comes to leadership styles, transformational and transactional approaches offer two very different ways of driving results. 1. Transformational Leadership focuses on inspiring and motivating teams. Leaders in this style create a shared vision, encourage innovation, and foster an environment of personal and professional growth. The key benefits? **Higher employee engagement, creativity, and long-term development**—all of which lead to sustainable success. 2. Transactional Leadership, on the other hand, relies on structure, rewards, and penalties to achieve short-term results. While this method is effective for immediate goals and maintaining order, it often lacks the deep employee commitment and adaptability that transformational leadership cultivates. Ultimately, transformational leadership builds loyalty, innovation, and a culture of trust, while transactional leadership ensures clear expectations and task completion. Both have their merits, but transformational leadership is particularly valuable in today’s fast-paced, ever-changing business world. #Leadership #TransformationalLeadership #TransactionalLeadership #TeamEngagement #BusinessGrowth #InnovationInLeadership #LeadershipDevelopment

We were pleased that Ben Vernazza, Principal Consultant and Head of Assessment at Edgecumbe, had the opportunity to deliver a compelling session at Hogrefe UK’s recent ‘Leadership Assessment 2024.0’ event. At Edgecumbe, we believe that #Leadership is about creating the conditions for individuals, teams, and organisations to succeed. #Leaders may have an indirect impact on performance through their influence on work climate and employee engagement, which in turn drives results. Key takeaways from Ben’s session ("how incomplete leaders can create complete leadership"): ➡️Proposition 1: What do leaders need to do? (understand their role in shaping the environment and engagement). ➡️Proposition 2: Leaders are inherently incomplete (acknowledge that all leaders have areas for growth and development). ➡️Proposition 3: Personality and performance interact (recognise how individual traits influence leadership effectiveness). ➡️Proposition 4: Creating complete leadership from incomplete leaders (learn strategies to build well-rounded leadership teams). Why to choose transformational leadership over transactional leadership The key difference lies in their style of management. Transactional leadership primarily focuses on task and their outcomes. While transformational leadership considers inspiration & shared vision. Therefore, transformational leadership tend to have long-term vision. It creates purposeful and meaningful changes for the organization. Transactional leadership uses instructive way of communication. However, the transformational leadership motivates the team to create innovative solutions. The conclusion is transactional model works in a bureaucratic environment. But the transformational leadership is successful in chaotic requirements. This model is suitable in combating the adaptive changes. Let's discuss here first, why to choose the transformational leadership over transactional leadership. Sharing common vision improves HR management in transformative leaders. It brings employees better commitment and engagement towards their work. Therefore, employees develop leadership skills, critical thinking skills and decision-making ability in the team. But there are few challenges faced by transformational leadership. Employees may feel resist to change. Cultural, behavioral and organisational changes require time and patience. By overcoming these obstacles transformative leaders can develop more sustainable and profitable businesses. #leadershiptypes

Values-led leadership is the glue that keeps companies together because it fosters a cohesive and unified organizational culture. When leaders exemplify and prioritize core values, they set a clear standard for behavior and decision-making that aligns with the company's mission and vision. This alignment not only strengthens trust and collaboration among employees but also enhances their sense of purpose and belonging. Employees are more likely to be engaged, motivated, and committed when they see their leaders consistently act with integrity and authenticity. Moreover, values-led leadership helps navigate challenges and changes, providing a stable foundation and a shared sense of direction. By embedding core values into every aspect of the organization, leaders create a resilient, adaptable, and harmonious workplace that can weather any storm. #valuesled #leadership #leadbyexample #employeeengagement #vision #mission #employeeexperience

**Building Leaders, Not Followers** One of my greatest joys as a business leader is watching people grow, evolve, and step confidently into new roles and responsibilities. 🌱 There's something truly rewarding about helping someone move up in their career, knowing that each step forward makes them—and the business—stronger. But here's the challenge: so many companies miss this. Instead of encouraging employees to voice new ideas, they expect people to "fall in line" and stick to what’s always worked. Unfortunately, this approach limits both individual and organizational potential. **What I believe:** A business that truly wants to grow has to support an environment where employees feel empowered to challenge the status quo. Creating a space for open dialogue, new ideas, and constructive challenges is where true innovation begins. When we foster leaders within our teams, we’re not only building a stronger future but creating a workplace where people feel valued and excited to contribute. What practices have you seen that help people grow into leadership roles? Or, if you've felt held back, what would you change? #Leadership #EmployeeGrowth #Empowerment #FutureLeaders #Innovation #BusinessCulture

Authoritarian leadership, characterized by top-down decision-making and strict control, was once a common management style. However, it's increasingly seen as outdated and potentially harmful to organizational success. While authoritarian leadership can provide structure and clarity in certain situations, it can also stifle creativity, discourage innovation, and erode employee morale. In the long run, this can lead to decreased productivity, higher turnover, and a negative company culture. For organizations seeking to thrive in the 21st century, fostering a collaborative, empowering, and inclusive work environment is crucial. This requires leaders who can inspire, motivate, and empower their teams, rather than simply dictate. #leadership #personaldevelopment #management #innovation #business

Leaders have different leadership styles. Those who naturally lean towards command and control have trouble keeping teams engaged and motivated. Mature and secure leaders can learn how to lead in other ways and I'd say it's a must for those leading modern teams of knowledge workers.
