🌟 Kickstarting the Week with Product Vision and Execution 🌟 As a Product Manager, I’ve learned that building great products isn't just about innovation—it’s about listening, adapting, and aligning the team around a shared vision. Recently, I had the opportunity to work on Zojapay a challenging, rewarding, and exciting journey in fintech. The experience reinforced a few key principles that I believe are critical to successful product management: ✅ Customer-Centric Mindset: Empathy is everything. It’s our job to understand the customer’s pain points better than they do. For me, continuous feedback loops with users is essential to shaping any product feature. ✅ Data-Informed Decisions: While gut instinct plays a role, data drives my decisions. Every product roadmap should be built on measurable insights and metrics that matter. ✅ Cross-Functional Collaboration: A product’s success is the result of strong teamwork. Whether it’s engineers, designers, or sales, I believe in fostering open communication and building a shared sense of ownership. ✅ Iterate & Evolve: No product is ever "done." Could not agree more. What defines ‘I have fully contributed in my role’ or ‘I have become the best PM’? There isn’t a definitive answer or a set of indicators because it now depends on the market, which in turn depends on the company. Some companies need you to be a data analyst, others might need you to be a corporate strategist, researcher, or even a digital marketer. You could call it a full-stack PM role, a superman role, or even exploitation in some cases. The truth is, you have the power to choose whatever suits you. But remember, in the end, it’s about supply and demand. You can choose from the available options, or you can define your own path by starting your own venture. Both are difficult—so choose your hard. For me, a good PM is defined by how they make decisions based on the available data, manage risks, and deliver tangible results that lead to long-term success. Over the last few weeks I‘v mentioned the influence of AI on product management quite a few times. I see significant potential to make routine tasks easier but overall I strongly believe that any product manager who really wants to understand how their product can bring value to users needs to stay involved with the nitty gritty. Leading customer interviews and yes, also transcribing them and coding them, for me are important to get a deep understanding of what was discussed. I don‘t want to rely on someone or something else‘s interpretation. And without that deep understanding I can‘t share rationale with other team members.

In the foreseeable future, AI will create, and humans will curate and edit. This transformation is starting with copywriting and UX/UI design and will extend to product management and software development. Traditional job tasks are shrinking and restructuring, and while this might seem daunting, it's an opportunity to evolve.🌟 As we move forward, it's essential for everyone to embrace being +AI—becoming a better version of ourselves with the help of AI copilots and assistants. This evolution will make us more efficient and innovative in our roles.🚀🤖 I recently attended an intriguing discussion about AI in product management, and it was surprising how many conversations revolved around AI's impact on job roles across various disciplines and industries.😎💡 A big thanks to Arvindd Selvaratnam , the head of product of PayNet (Payments Network Malaysia) and founder of MalaysianPAYGAP - Prestine Davekhaw and industry and expert panelists Alex Yap Hester Lim Tze Chin Tang yin teng ✧. for sharing their insights during an enlightening evening at Paynet.🙏👏 Kudos to Johnny Woo, the curator of Design Leadership MY , for organizing such a fantastic event! 🎉🙌

It was both an honour and a pleasure to share the stage with Nadine Yap, Eric Wang and Fabian Lua and be able to pick their brain and listen to their stories as part of the panel discussion "The future of product management in SEA". My biggest takeaway from the session was that product folk need to continue to adapt and ensure that they are delivering value in their roles. Whether it is Gen AI, or the great tech layoff or a soul crushing dystopian future (to borrow from Jan Takács presentation 😎), we cannot afford to be complacent. Just writing user stories isn't going to cut it, not then, not now, and definitely not in the future. As technology becomes better, the baseline is going to get higher. But it also means the ceiling of the problems that we can solve is going to be higher as well. I am definitely disappointed that we could not take more questions and deep dive into some of the topics because of time, but I hope that we managed to keep the session real and honest. How I apply it in our AI-first environment: 🛠️ 📅 Allocating time for team brainstorming before sprint planning 🔍 Diving deep into user feedback before committing to new features 🔄 Prioritizing discussions on potential roadblocks over rushing to the finish line Counterintuitive insight: The Slow-Down Sprint 🌀 ✅ Take one day per sprint to review, reflect, and recalibrate. 🔄 Use this time to ask: "Are we solving the right problem?" 💡 I found that this 'slow day' accelerates our overall progress by preventing missteps! My takeaway: In a fast-paced startup, it's tempting to equate speed with success.
