The Atlanta Black Chambers Government Affairs Committee is hosting a roundtable to bring together key voices to explore how set-aside legislation can level the playing field for small businesses, promote economic growth, and ensure a more equitable business environment across our state. To help provide a level playing field for small businesses, the federal government limits competition for certain contracts to small businesses. Those contracts are called “small business set-asides,” and they help small businesses compete for and win federal contracts. Some states with set-asides for small businesses include: Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia and Connecticut. Our goal is to develop a unified strategy to encourage Georgia legislators to enact policies that provide small businesses with greater opportunities to compete for government contracts. Small Business Roundtable: Advocating for Set-Aside Legislation in Georgia Date: October 8, 2024 Time: 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. Location: Russell Innovation Center for Entrepreneurs, 504 Fair St SW, Atlanta, GA 30313 RSVP early because the room will be packed. ATTENTION MEMBERS & BUSINESSES: The Pahrump Valley Chamber of Commerce CEO, Jenney Sartin, went before the Nye County Board of Commissioners on behalf of the members/ businesses of Nye County. The following statement was offered: “We believe that the businesses and stakeholders in the Pahrump Valley, want a vision for what we can be in the 5, 10 or 20 years and a path to a more prosperous future. We contend that this path begins through open and transparent conversations with business leaders and the Chamber. That’s why we came before you on two occasions asking you to consider the creation of the Pahrump Economic and Business Development Task Force. In good faith we asked you to work with us and the business community in order to assure a mutually beneficial open and transparent dialogue and process. We were disappointed to hear, “no Commissioner has expressed interest in the proposed task force”. We believe strongly in the importance of transparency, collaboration and communication in order to achieve the business communities’ goals. That means that officials act openly, keeping citizens informed of their decisions, and making information available to effected stakeholders. Due process means that your actions must be fair and follow established legal procedures, including adhering to laws regarding transparency in financial matters, particularly if it negatively impacts business and economic development. On May 31, 2023 Governor Joe Lombardo did sign into law SB261 (effective October of 2023), which revises the provisions relating to local governments and NRS 237.080. Specifically, Sec. 4 & Sec. 6 summarized: If a local government has a proposed rule it is considering which might impose a significant economic burden upon a business it must following a concise process to determine those impacts and provide a opportunity for Chambers of Commerce, businesses and others to respond accordingly to those possible impacts. It also outlines the repercussions for failure to comply. See letter & SB261 link below: https://lnkd.in/gbe2PYcJ

New Report: Systemic Barriers Holding Back California's Diverse-Owned Small Businesses A new report commissioned by the California Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce, and California African American Chamber of Commerce reveals that despite making up nearly half of California’s 4.1 million businesses, Diverse-owned Small Businesses (DSBs) face major challenges like limited access to capital and high barriers to entry. These systemic issues have hindered the growth and contribution of DSBs to the state’s economy. The report was completed by Beacon Economics and funded by Southern California Gas Company, San Diego Gas & Electric, and Kaiser Permanente. Key Findings: - DSBs contributed $414 billion to California’s economy in 2020, supporting 3.6 million jobs annually. - California has fewer minority-owned small businesses relative to its population compared to Florida, New York, and Texas. - Targeted policies and better data collection could unlock the untapped potential of - DSBs and boost economic growth. In a new opinion piece, "In Defense of Our Free Enterprise System," the Chamber "will continue to advocate for policies that encourage entrepreneurship, reduce unnecessary regulations, and foster a competitive economy. With the guidance and support of our member businesses, the Chamber aims to make the Commonwealth the best place to live, work, and do business—the overarching goal in the Chamber’s strategic plan." #BetterRegulation 🇪🇺 is a discussion that’s been around for a while, but it’s more important now than ever. With a fresh perspective and innovative ideas, the members of SME Connect have started a forum for open, constructive dialogue to achieve real political outcomes. Central to this initiative are the "Think Small First" principle and a robust SME Test, designed to evaluate the potential impact of legislative proposals on SMEs. These elements aim to create legislation that better reflects the real-world needs of SMEs and includes smaller stakeholders. The Forum for Better Regulation is brought to you by the Taxpayers Association of Europe, the Związek Przedsiębiorców i Pracodawców / Union of Entrepreneurs and Employers, the European Economic Senate, Danske Iværksættere - Danish Entrepreneurs, and the European Enterprise Alliance. We invite all our members and partners to participate in the essential dialogues. Your voice matters to us. Follow for more ➡ https://lnkd.in/dyK6B5Yu

Northland Small Business Owners - make the most of this excellent opportunity. And be honest while being constructive. 😉 Adding, I've just been challenged (thank you) on why it's important to take the time to feed back. Here's my why ... I know there is a huge amount of frustration in our small business community here in Northland. And good reason for it. I also know that our potential to break the glass ceiling is ripe. Adding to that, for many it feels like hitting your head on a brick wall ... why feedback when it feels like no one is actually listening or doing something that makes a tangible difference. Well, some of us are and yep, it's not an overnight solution but it builds momentum which, I believe, will reap rewards. Thus I say be honest, be concise and be clear. And if you have them, offer solutions or pathways forward.
Our CE Paul Linton has been appointed to a Government Small Business Advisory Group advising Minister Bayly on: ➡️ Challenges facing small business and; ➡️ What business would like Government to be doing to assist The Group is made up of business leaders from across New Zealand – owners of companies, some Economic Development Agencies, Chamber of Commerce and industry association CE’s. Paul returned from the first meeting this week which discussed topics such as compliance challenges, digitisation and AI. Along with our own customer base, we are working with NorthChamber and the Business Associations of Northland collaboratively to gather an aligned message of what is important to small business specifically related to Northland, so Paul can send this message back to Central Government for us all. Our new CE at NorthChamber Leah McKerrow is working with us to support this mahi and together we have set up a very short poll to help us quickly gather your current thoughts. It's super short – you can do it in around 1-2 minutes - and it's mostly 1 or 2 word answers. We invite all our Northland small businesses to take part and help us represent your thoughts to Government. ➡️ Take the poll here: https://lnkd.in/ggCanjGR @northchambernz

Matthew Addison, Chair, COSBOA - If I have a dream, the two days at the Summit can form the launch pad to achieve outcomes that I (we) perceive the Small Business sector need from Government, from Regulators, from decision makers, in support from association leads. Let's advocate for positive economic policies, streamlined regulations, and empowerment for small business owners. Together, let's create an environment where young entrepreneurs thrive, embracing digitisation and innovation. We need a tax system that fosters productivity and fairness, ensuring sustainable funding for Australia's needs. Let's lay the groundwork for a prosperous and inclusive future for small businesses. #FitForPurpose #SmallBusiness #FutureDevelopment
