Recent studies show that retailers adopting AI have seen a 2.3x increase in sales and a 2.5x increase in profit. Yet, many businesses are still leaving money on the table due to an often-overlooked challenge: process debt. Process debt refers to any task that takes longer than it should. Let’s all be clear, this debt is not due to a lack of skill within a team, but more often than not it occurs because "it's always been done this way." This accumulation of inefficient processes can stifle innovation and hinder growth. To mitigate “process debt” and effectively harness the power of AI, retailers should: 1. Get the team together and conduct a thorough audit to identify the biggest drivers of your "process debt" 2. Understand that if growth and profitability are the goal, you need to start working backwards from it, rather than trying to get it to fit into existing workflows 3. Encourage the team to separate optimisation from innovation. By understanding the outdated processes, you'll free up resources for creative breakthroughs.
