I recently attended ProductCon New York, which was an amazing experience filled with insightful talks and opportunities to meet fellow PMs and build new connections.   My favorite talks were by Ibrahim Bashir, Purvi Shah, and Penny Szeto   Ibrahim Bashir's use of humor captivated the audience, and his insights on different types of revenue and their importance to a company were fascinating. It was also great to interact with him afterward and discover our shared love for points and miles.   Purvi Shah's session on the importance of decommissioning was highly relatable, highlighting the similar legacy platform challenges faced by Mastercard and Amex.   Penny Szeto's talk on subscription fatigue was particularly insightful, and I enjoyed her storytelling style.   Additionally, it was great to meet Carlos Gonzalez de Villaumbrosia and get a signed copy of The Product Book. Fresh off the plane from my parents' 40th Anniversary Party, so my thoughts may be a little muddled LOL. I kept getting the same question from my family all weekend: What does a Product Manager do? If you've ever wondered what a Product Manager actually does, let me break it down for you: We're basically the jugglers 🤹♀️ of the tech world. We balance user needs, business goals, and technical feasibility, all while dodging the occasional fire 🧯 (metaphorically speaking, of course). But here's the real kicker: We save companies 💰 and ⏳. How? -We're the voice of the customer 🗣️, ensuring we build products people actually want. (Translation: No more fancy features nobody uses!) -We prioritize ruthlessly 쳐, focusing on what moves the needle. (Because let's face it, we all have limited resources. Hello, Budget!) -We collaborate across teams 🤝, preventing miscommunications and costly rework. (Think of us as the glue that holds everything together.) So, next time you see a Product Manager, give them a high-five 👋. We might be slightly stressed, but we're definitely making a difference!

It's finally summer here in the UK (at least today)... Sometimes we really need to just switch off for 30 min and get some great thinking time outside. I'm a big fan of Banco Itaú's product development team, the largest in Brazil and probably in Latin America and the Southern Hemisphere, with over 20K engineers, designers, and product managers. Despite their size, they maintain a rapid pace and unwavering focus on client satisfaction, continuously enhancing their apps and systems several times a week. They are a fantastic example of the potential of a transformed organization, even on this massive scale. As an ingredient of this success is their continuous learning and improvement mindset. I had the privilege of collaborating with their CTO3 team led by Edson Portilho and Thiago Charnet, their digital transformation team led by Diana Pasqualucci and Valeria Marretto, and, more recently, with their CTO2 team under the guidance of Augusto Stracieri and Fábio Napoli on implementing the Product Operating Model (POM). Last night, I went to “Fail Night” hosted by Product Academy at SMG Swiss Marketplace Group, and it was full of great insights! A bunch of Product Managers shared their failures and what they learned from them. Here are my top takeaways: From Cyril Mugglin: • Don’t be shy about asking for clarity. As a Product Manager, you need to know who’s responsible for what. Never assume—always double-check! • Think about all your users, not just the end-users. For example, how drivers experience your product can make a big difference in how satisfied passengers are. Make sure you’re exploring their journey too! From Mathias Dirksmeier: When you’re looking for Product Manager roles, here are a couple of red flags to watch out for: • No mention of strategy, but a lot of focus on delivery. • The company doesn’t want to share real business metrics. 🌟 Biggest lesson of the night: Everyone makes mistakes, even the pros. What a fantastic evening meeting author (and product legend) Marty Cagan! Key learnings from this evening's talk: 🚀 Start with fixing delivery, and move to consistent releases to prove the model to key stakeholders. Empower product managers to stop project managing. 🔍Move to fixing how we solve problems by empowering product teams to prototype and test frequently before any building. Solving for feasibility, usability, and viability is key in this step. 🎯 Now the model is proven, tackle product strategy and how we choose the right problems to solve by defining a clear and detailed product vision, creating a team topology where each team has OKR's that link to a true business objective, and empowering these teams to make decisions for how to reach those goals. Huge shoutout to ProductTank Brisbane for organising such a fantastic event!

Wearing the Product Owner's cap means owning the vision and maximizing product value. It's about clear priorities, stakeholder collaboration, and ensuring the team delivers real impact.

I am super fortunate, because my job includes getting to know great product people and organizations on a regular basis. Last week, I was invited to Flix to talk about the importance of constantly and quickly switching between Problem and Solution Space to improve your time to value. Also on a more personal note: I prefer the train, but I am still amazed by how Flix conquered the European & US bus market leveraging technology. It's a great example that tech plays a huge role in a companies success, even if they are doing something, that people have been doing for ages: bus travel. Oh and before someone adds that into the comments: Well aware that Flix is also doing trains, but there is no connections in Munich yet 😉 Maria Eliseeva thanks for the invitation and for organizing knowledge exchanges at Flix.
