Key Responsibilities - Provide expert legal advice on litigation, disputes, contracts, and regulatory compliance. - Manage legal disputes and claims, including preparing legal documentation and developing litigation strategies. - Represent the company in court hearings and legal proceedings as necessary. - Work with external legal counsel to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery of services. - Conduct legal research and stay updated on relevant regulations and trends affecting the business. - Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents. - Maintain an up-to-date contract database/registry and monitor key deadlines. - Assess legal risks and implement strategies to mitigate liabilities. - Conduct internal training on legal matters to ensure awareness and adherence to policies. - Prepare agendas, papers, and minutes for meetings and ensure follow-up on action points. - Any other duties assigned by management. Education Requirements - Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized institution. - Post Graduate Diploma in Law from Kenya School of Law. - Admitted to the Roll of Advocates in Kenya. - Valid and current Practicing Certificate. Experience Requirements - 4-5 years of proven experience in legal practice, with a focus on corporate, commercial, or regulatory litigation. - Experience working in-house or with financial institutions, particularly within the microfinance sector, is highly preferred. Key Competencies - Strong knowledge of Kenyan business and corporate law, civil litigation, and regulatory compliance. - Proven track record in legal research, drafting, and advising on complex legal matters. - Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple cases simultaneously. - Proficient in legal drafting, negotiation, and communication. - High level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion in handling sensitive information. - Strong attention to detail and the ability to think critically and strategically. - Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying legal risks and solutions. - Results-oriented, self-motivated, and adaptable to a fast-paced, high-demand environment. - Proficient in Microsoft Office and legal research tools.
