**New Publication** Our MEL protocol is now published in BMJ Paediatrics Open. Those working on multi-country, interdisciplinary research project involving very large data set understands the value of having a strong MEL framework and procedures. However, in publishing research articles, the supporting MEL method is often not given the prominence it deserves. We are changing perspectives around that. In the past two days I posted a question whether those two papers are duplicate or not: 1-OnabotulinumtoxinA for treatment of chronic migraine: Results from the double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled phase of the PREEMPT 2 tria 2-OnabotulinumtoxinA for treatment of chronic migraine: Results from the double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled phase of the PREEMPT 1 trial ==>Despite that both papers have ~ the same authors, treatment arms (dosage, timing,..etc) and recruitment period --- they are not considered duplicate population. When you go to their protocol published in clinicaltrials.gov, you will find that the trial location is different (attached screen shot) Note that the same trial could have two different registration numbers See https://lnkd.in/d2gi9SaD So you have to check every paper well before taking the exclusion decision especially when you have small number of included papers. #research #medicalresearch #publication #duplicate #systematicreview #metaanalysis #publichealth #editor

✨ Day 7 of the Translator’s Advent Calendar: “Final PICO” The term “final PICO” is essential in clinical research and medical translation. It’s a format used to frame and answer a clinical research question, ensuring that studies are structured and results are reliable. In translation, understanding the nuances of such terms is crucial for accurately conveying research findings across languages. Mastering terms such as PICO helps ensure precision and clarity in medical documents, ultimately supporting global health initiatives. #PICO #ClinicalResearch #ResearchMethodology #Translation #TranslatorAdventCalendar #MedicalTranslation #Terminology
🎄✨ Day 7 of the Translator’s Advent Calendar: Today’s term is “final PICO”. In evidence-based medicine, PICO stands for Patient (or Population), Intervention, Comparator, and Outcome, and it’s a framework used to define research questions. The term final PICO refers to the refined version of this question after careful consideration of the clinical or research context, ensuring clarity and focus for systematic reviews or studies. In Spanish, it’s typically translated as "pregunta PICO final" or “pregunta PICO en su versión final”, maintaining the acronym in its original form for consistency in medical literature. This term is a reminder of the importance of precision and structure in scientific communication. 🎁 #TranslationAdventCalendar #LanguageLovers

Highlighting this work led by my colleague, Will Cragg, about developing resources for participants who withdraw from clinical trials. Stopping participation can be a tough process for participants. People have reported feeling 'abandoned', or find it difficult to communicate reasons for stopping participation, or communication from research staff about what happens as a result of stopping participation, makes it more difficult. But the work hadn't really been explored in depth, and we found that sometimes participants can be excluded from important communications like study results without clear justification. A co-developed resource to provide support to research participants who stop taking part was produced. I really enjoyed being involved, particularly being led by Will and watching him manage this project with a group of public contributors whose experience and skills were essential to informing the direction of the work. Have a read and check out the PeRSEVERE website, developed by Will, for guidance and resources for handling end of participation https://lnkd.in/e__Fr-9U Full paper here: https://lnkd.in/e4MJn39S #trialconduct #ppie #clinicaltrials #research
