Enjoy reading this evaluation report on one of Dorcas important approaches which is Community Safety Nets for older people. Today on the #InternationalDayofOlderPeople.
𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 On the International Day of Older People, Dorcas published an evaluation of its Community Safety Net (CSN) approach in Albania, Egypt, Ethiopia, Moldova, Romania, Tanzania and Ukraine. A CSN mobilises different organisations in a community to provide a safe and supportive environment where older people can flourish. It also raises awareness about the issues older people face. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐒𝐍𝐬: ➡️ CSNs restore older people’s dignity through social, intergenerational, income-generating and spiritual activities. ➡️ They strengthen social cohesion and create valuable traditions. ➡️ Communities discover that they can do more than they originally realised to support older people to flourish. Various practices improve the sustainability and impact of CSNs, such as actively involving participants, partnering with churches as natural allies in caring for older people and holding governments accountable. However, CSNs also encounter challenges, such as encouraging local ownership and balancing the positive and negative effects of providing material support to older people. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭? Dorcas’ evaluation report offers several recommendations. Our country offices will utilise these insights to improve the sustainability and impact of their CSN projects. 𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞? Read the evaluation report to explore our findings.

Good news for residents in Caledon! The Town of Caledon has announced that the municipality has been accepted by the World Health Organization (WHO) to join their Global Network for Age-friendly Cities and Communities (GNACC). As a member, the Town of Caledon will be part of a growing global movement to better meet the needs of older residents. Membership with the WHO’s GNACC is one of many ways the Town is preparing for the future. In 2021, Caledon adopted a 10-year Age-Friendly Caledon (AFC) Action Plan with the vision of Caledon being a safe, welcoming and inclusive community for all residents – regardless of age. The programs and initiatives outlined in the Action Plan have supported Caledon’s older population through to 2023, where an estimated 30% of Caledon’s population is over the age of 55 and 15% is over the age of 65. “Together with residents, Town staff and Council, we have implemented policy and spearheaded initiatives that ensure Caledon is an age-friendly community where older residents can age well and age in place,” said Mayor Annette Groves. “This international recognition from the World Health Organization highlights our commitment to this cause and our motivation to continue improving age-friendliness in Caledon.” The Town of Caledon joins a network of over 1500 cities across the globe with the mission to create an Age-Friendly world. https://lnkd.in/gJdC6jK6 #Caledon #CaledonEast #Orangeville #Bolton #CaledonVillage

Seniors are important people in the society and can be cared for via the following ways: 1. Community Support Services: Establish community centers or programs where seniors can access meal services, transportation assistance, and social activities to prevent isolation and ensure their basic needs are met. 2. In-Home Care Services: Provide personalized care through professional caregivers or family members who assist seniors with daily activities, medical needs, and companionship in the comfort of their homes. 3. Senior-Friendly Public Infrastructure: Develop age-friendly environments with accessible healthcare facilities, recreational spaces, and public transportation designed to accommodate the physical and mobility needs of seniors. #CulturalHeritage #RootedInTradition #YouthEmpowerment #HeritageMatters #CulturalPride #ConnectingGenerations #CulturalIdentity #TraditionsAlive #CelebrateHeritage #ProudRoots #UnityInDiversity #HeritageForYouth #PreserveCulture #GenerationalBond #CulturalConnection #TogetherInCulture #PassItOn #HeritageBridge #TraditionContinues #CommunityStrength #CulturalLegacy #CulturalRoots #OurCultureOurPride #HonoringHeritage #YouthAndElders #TraditionalWisdom #HeritageCelebration #CulturalAwareness #StrengthInHeritage #LegacyOfLove
