We support the Modern Slavery Act 2015 Committee's call for a strengthening of protections for modern slavery victims. The latest report from the Committee has considered the successes and failures of the Act so far. We are proud to have contributed to the Home Office's original call for evidence, setting out areas that the MSA could be improved in the areas of supply chains, reporting and enforcement. In 2015, the Act was world-leading. The UK Parliament has published its Modern Slavery Statement for 2023-2024. The statement outlines the proactive approach Parliament has taken to identify and mitigate modern slavery risks, both within its workforce and its supply chains, plus the lessons we have learned over the last year. This year, we have demonstrated our alignment with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and our work to assess the modern slavery risk within the different sectors we buy from. I am glad to announce that our new report "The Right to Monitor Assemblies in the OSCE Region: Experiences from the Field" is out. Based on the interviews we conducted with assembly #monitors from 16 OSCE participating States, this report discusses challenges to independent observation, including associated with the status of monitors, the impact of use of force during assemblies, and harassment/detention of monitors. It also offers recommendation on how assembly monitoring work can be facilitated, in line with States' human rights obligations. US Senator Bernie Sanders, who is Jewish and who's parents were Holocaust survivors, and others in the US Senate have confirmed that the United States is in violation of the law. US Senators Sanders and Chris Van Hollen, a strong supporter of Israel and outspoken critic of the Netanyahu government, have introduced three resolutions that call for the immediate blocking of arms and weapons to Israel. Sanders told reporters at a news conference "that the truth of the matter is that from a legal perspective these resolutions are not complicated. They are cut and dry. The United States government is currently in violation of the law and every member of the US Senate who believes in the rule of law should vote for these resolutions. The Foreign Assistance Act and Arms Export Control Act are very clear. The United States cannot provide weaponry to countries that violate internationally recognized human rights or block US humanitarian aid. ...
