Is Fun at Work a Myth? Here's What Really Matters When I had 40 employees working for me at Free Form Fitness we had fun. We hired people who cared. People who where aligned and passionate. And we celebrated every chance we got. Having won employer of the year I often got asked by my clients and other entrepreneurs how I balanced fun with hard work. I would tell them that fun isn't something you try to push upon people by adding some gimmicky fun hour to the mix. By throwing parties. True fun in your job arises out of safety. When employees know what you expect of them and have the systematic guidance to help them reach those expectations - they feel safe. When employees know the rules and can witness their manager upholding them without favouritism - they feel safe. Are you prioritizing external validation over your own wants and needs? Pivoting from working herself to the verge of multiple-organ failure to launching a corporate wellness business, Amina AlTai thought she had figured out her career. When she found herself sobbing in a client’s bathroom after giving a talk on “living whole and well in work and life,” she realized she still needed to break the pattern of prioritizing external validation over her own wants and needs. AlTai said, “Everything changed when I learned to tap into my own authenticity and to teach others to do the same.” Now in her third and most fulfilling career as a holistic business coach, AlTai explained, “When I dialed in the people pleasing, I was actually living more from who I am and what I wanted to do — and I basically doubled my revenue, was working half the time, and was just feeling so easeful in the business by following my own tools.” AlTai shared this valuable piece of free career coaching: “Design from you. What do you want it to look like? What’s going to make you feel fulfilled?
