Thrilled to join Drew Neisser's CMO Huddles in London today. WIth fellow panelists, my good mate Sion Lewis CEO CiPHR, and Amanda St L Jobbins CMO Vodafone Business (someone who I have heard so much about over the years but never met) The panel discussion discussed the somewhat delicate relationship between CMO and CEO in tech businesses and how instrumental this is for a CMO to do their job well. Based on alignment with and deep understanding of the goals and motivations of their CEO (which are sometimes not as apparent as you might think) and the business. We also touched on the differences in approaches to marketing in the US and Europe. US software firms are more prepared to build an expansive vision and "story" in the early stages of the business and grow into it, compared to a rather more humble approach in Europe, where the story and message are often smaller than the business and lag behind. Building big companies needs a "big" vision. We should be bolder! CMO Huddles is a US based networking community for technology CMOs, just building a London chapter. 🍾🍾 I BROKE MY RECORD 🍾🍾 I have been helping companies submit for B Corp-certification for years now. But in March, during B Corp Month, I broke my record. I helped 6 companies submit their B Impact Assessment for verification! 🤘🤘 I know. Life is not (only) a numbers game, but it makes me proud that I can help people and companies work towards a more responsible business. And the six companies I have help submit in March are quite cool and really different! They are within entertainment, design, furniture, facility management, food, and consultancy. From a one-man band to more than 100 employees. From a more than a 100-year-old company to one started a couple of years ago. However they have something in common: They want to redefine the measures of success for businesses: Working towards a more inclusive, equitable and regenerative economic system for all people and the planet 🌍 That is what I like about B Corp. It does not matter the industry, you are in, the size you have, or how many years you have been in operation. You have a role to play.
