I was recently asked what critical skills will be essential to thrive in a world transformed by generative AI—what do you think?
This is one perspective, and one that I share:
A number of answers exist, but the most pressing for ensuring organisational success is the ability to navigate and lead transformational change effectively. Technical expertise alone is no longer enough—leaders at all levels must excel in adapting to and implementing transformative initiatives to ensure their business remains relevant and valuable in dynamic economic conditions. As a core capability, this skill is essential to respond to the evolving landscape of AI platforms.
We are now at a point where businesses must deconstruct job functions to improve efficiency through automation. This shift will disrupt work at every level, forcing organisations to reengineer their operating models and organisational constructs. In alignment with business transformation, AI advancements will revolutionise Learning and Development, fundamentally changing the way skills and knowledge are developed. Automation will lead to new opportunities, but it will require higher levels of skill and employee upskilling to embrace AI.
Leading transformational change is a complex skill that develops over time. It includes the ability to lead transitions, redesign structures and workflows, and inspire teams during periods of uncertainty. Leaders must adapt to shifting circumstances while effectively keeping stakeholders engaged and aligning initiatives with long-term goals. Creative problem-solving, resilience, and continuous learning are essential for staying relevant and composed in dynamic environments, ensuring the successful implementation of transformative initiatives.
