About that Open To Work tag on my profile... Yes, I'm working at Epic. And I AM LOVING IT HERE. This place is awesome. The people here are kind and approachable and talented and knowledgeable and full of all the good stuff you want to see in a team - both the team you're on and the team you're helping to grow as a recruiter. I know I just started here and I'm sure there will be some eyeroll moments and frustrations here and there down the road, but I'm also confident they will be minor issues, and that they will be far outweighed by all the positives this place can bring. It is also a reality that I'm a contractor here. Even if I do well in this role, there is no guarantee that I'm going to be converted. (Boy howdy do I hope that I will be, but sometimes there are 20 amazing people out there and only 1 position to fill.) My husband, bless him, is also in games, at a great start-up. We sincerely hope the company is one of the big success stories of the start-up world (and not just for the stability - the product is one we both want to see out in the world!); but as everyone in games knows, this is a very challenging time to be looking for funding. Do we hold hope that I get converted to perm and that his team gets all the glorious funding to see their product out in the world, being wildly successful? ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY! Until those things happen, though, I need to keep at least one foot on the ground, playing it safe for me and my family, and keeping my options open for something that I can feel confident will take me beyond the next 6 (now just over 5) months. Until that stability presents itself in my household, I'm keeping the Open To Work tag visible on my profile. While I'm working hard to build up the team at Epic, which will remain my first work priority (for lots of good reasons), I'm not going to go out of my way to hunt down other opportunities; but I will be open to carrying on a conversation if someone else approaches me with something great - and stable - for the long-term. Hope that clarifies things (and yes, I've been asked). Definitely not actively looking. Definitely wanting to stick around here. And very definitely needing to be the responsible adult and not close the door on long-term options. In other news - I should have some job postings to discuss before long. Looking forward to sharing them!
Honestly with the job market being the way it is, I don’t think the open to work tag should have the apparent controversy it does. That said, nice to see you’re doing well at Epic and, as someone still looking for more stable opportunities myself, wish you and your husband’s endeavors the best!
In the wake of widespread layoffs, the concept of FTE/Perm no longer carries the same 'feel' of stability it once had. What was traditionally seen as the gold standard of job security has been reshaped by economic volatility, shorter tenures, and evolving workforce dynamics. All we can do is control the variables within our reach: work hard, give back, be a good person, and hope for the best. Here's to wishing everyone a future with FTE, stability, and security.
Fantastic! You are working with so many of my favorite people; it is no surprise you fit in; they are lucky to have you. 😁
Appreciated reading your updates. Your story is so relatable. Congratulations on the role and glad to hear you’re enjoying it! And wishing you the best and rooting for you on your ongoing journey!
I'm so happy you're enjoying it there :) They are lucky!!

2wI think your story is relatable to so many who may be anxious to share this level of transparency (while completely understandable and common). I am manifesting an FTE opportunity for you at Epic in the near future! Any company would be very lucky to have you 💛
