Addressing Health Disparities in Diabetes Care Genentech recognizes that the most significant impact on patient health comes from addressing the root causes of health disparities at the local level. Their ongoing collaboration with the American Diabetes Association (ADA) exemplifies this commitment as they work to eliminate barriers to eye care for individuals with diabetes. It is exciting to see this impactful initiative expand into the Washington, D.C. area, highlighting the dedication of Genentech, the ADA, and their community partners. Together, they share a vision for health equity, advocating for a future where every patient has fair access to necessary care. #HealthEquityNow is more than just a slogan; it is an urgent call to action. Black and Hispanic/Latino communities face a higher risk of vision loss due to diabetes, the leading cause of preventable blindness. To change this narrative, it is essential to focus on community-centered solutions that tackle the systemic issues contributing to these health inequities. Through the collaboration with the ADA, the initiative aims to increase access to comprehensive and dilated eye exams at over 50 community locations, starting in Birmingham, Alabama, and now expanding to Washington, D.C. This work is vital in ensuring that vulnerable populations receive the eye care they deserve. For those interested in learning more about this important initiative, insights from Danielle Haney, PhD, Director of Patient Advocacy Relations at Genentech, provide valuable context. Efforts like these are crucial in paving the way for a more equitable future for all patients. #HealthEquityNow #Genentech #AmericanDiabetesAssociation #BlindnessPrevention #CommunityHealth

🌟 Mesothelioma Rising Among Senior Women: A Growing Concern 🌟 Did you know that mesothelioma cases among senior women are on the rise? Once primarily linked to male-dominated industries like construction and shipbuilding, this rare cancer is now affecting women through secondary asbestos exposure—often from washing asbestos-laden clothing brought home by family members. Key highlights: ✅ Secondary exposure is a major cause, with many women unknowingly exposed to asbestos fibers decades ago. ✅ Symptoms often appear decades after exposure, leading to late-stage diagnoses when treatment options are limited. ✅ Increasing awareness and early detection are critical to combating this hidden epidemic. This trend underscores the importance of raising awareness about asbestos-related risks and supporting those affected, regardless of gender. With earlier detection and innovative treatments, we can offer hope to individuals and families impacted by this devastating disease. 📖 Read more: https://lnkd.in/eTyHwRuW Let’s continue the conversation about mesothelioma awareness and work toward solutions that protect future generations. 💙 #MesotheliomaAwareness #AsbestosExposure #WomenAndHealth #CancerDetection #HealthcareAdvancements #LinkedInCommunity #PublicHealth

Nice story on Advanced Privacy Preserving Federating Learning (www.appfl.ai) on using FABRIC for building better, robust AI models: https://lnkd.in/gdQd_UsK. The FABRIC infrastructure is a distributed set of equipment at commercial collocation spaces, national labs and campuses. Each of the 29 FABRIC sites has large amounts of compute and storage, interconnected by high speed, dedicated optical links. It also connects to specialized testbeds (5G/IoT PAWR, NSF Clouds), the Internet and high-performance computing facilities to create a rich environment for a wide variety of experimental activities especially for Federated Learning benchmarking. ❤️ April is Cesarean Awareness Month! ❤️ The International Cesarean Awareness Network is a fantastic resource for VBAC and Cesarean information! "CAM FOCUSES ON ALL TOPICS SURROUNDING CESAREANS, INCLUDING REDUCING PREVENTABLE CESAREANS, SUPPORTING CESAREAN RECOVERY, AND ADVOCATING FOR VAGINAL BIRTH AFTER CESAREAN (VBAC) 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 • Researchers estimate that almost half of the cesareans performed could be safely prevented. • If families don’t know these options exist they can’t advocate for them. • Cesareans can be more or less “family friendly” depending on the practices and protocols at a facility and provider support. • Preventable Cesareans may be responsible for up to 20,000 major surgical complications a year, including sepsis, hemorrhage, and organ injury. • Often the future risks to birthing people, and their future pregnancies and children are not even mentioned." #CAM2023 #CesareanAwarenessMonth #ICANeducate #ICAN #cesarean #csection #VBAC
