Innovation, collaboration, and excellence are key to tackling systemic issues and advancing social change. On this week's #MissionForward episode, we dig deep with The Chronicle of Philanthropy's Stacy Palmer, Interfaith America 's Eboo Patel, and JustFund's Iara Peng to understand the true nature of social change. Here are our top takeaways: 1️⃣ Nonprofits can work to advance democracy and fight polarization by modeling respect, cooperation, and understanding across differences. 2️⃣ Philanthropy should embrace long-term thinking and take risks on innovative, transformative ideas. 3️⃣ Funders can support systemic change by funding bold, creative solutions and not being afraid of initial failures. The conversation around strategic philanthropy, particularly its role in effecting systemic change, is gaining traction. The urgency behind this shift stems from the recognition that Band-Aid solutions are inadequate for addressing the intricate web of societal challenges we face. To truly transform communities, philanthropy must embrace a holistic approach, understanding and addressing root causes rather than symptoms. This involves fostering collaborations with diverse stakeholders, harnessing the power of data-driven decision-making, and embracing flexible funding models that align with donors' passions. By championing strategic philanthropy, we can pave the way for a more equitable and prosperous future for all. Click the link in our bio to read more. I came across this article today and found it a very telling account of where #philanthropy (including corporate philanthropy), as well as more broadly, many of our societies in the West, have gone wrong in the last decades. A helpful reminder of the need to generate #SystemsChange for lasting #SocialImpact, as otherwise we will keep investing significant resources and efforts on tackling the symptoms of social issues, while their root causes will keep working in the opposite direction, perpetuating and worsening them. It is also a stark reminder that private initiatives (both in the business and third sectors) need to go hand in hand with (and support the development of) an inclusive and truly democratic public sector. Too often I see a narrative portraying business or social enterprises as the better alternative to public initiatives or as the solution to all the shortcomings of governments and public institutions - and this does not help with generating deep change at scale. https://lnkd.in/e4mscxHR

🌍 Trust-Based Philanthropy: Catalyzing Local Impact 🌍 Trust-based philanthropy is emerging as a transformative approach to funding local organizations. But where does this trust begin? Is it about trusting the leaders who drive change, believing in the impact of our investments, or understanding the genuine needs of the community? To effectively foster this trust, we must start with open communication and transparency. Listening to community voices is crucial—understanding their needs helps to align resources effectively. By building relationships based on trust, not only local organizations are empowered but also leads to sustainable, meaningful impact. I hope funders will commit to this trust-based approach and prioritize the voices that matter most. What are your thoughts on where to start in building this trust? #Philanthropy #CommunityImpact #TrustBasedPhilanthropy #Localorganization #DropofWater #WASH #Ethiopia

NONPROFITS & THE CAPTIVE MATERNAL At nonprofits, are we moving deck chairs around on the Titanic? I've been thinking about Dr. Joy James’ theory of the Captive Maternal And how it can help us see more clearly our work. Where on this spectrum is your org? Where is your activism personally? These feel like as important strategy questions as "How many more people can we serve? How many more sites can we expand to? How quickly can we grow?" To dive deeper, check out Dr. James’ interviews on RevLeft and Millennials are Killing Capitalism. — SOUL WORK COACHING Lead from your calling. #spirituality #SBNR #religiousnones #nonprofit #justice #socialjustice #liberationtheology #theology #leadership #ethics #growth #mastersofdivinity #vocation #socialentrepreneurship #socialimpact #founder #executivedirector #seminary #philanthrocapitalism #soulworkcoaching #coaching #spirit #latecapitalism #communityorganizing #advocacy #climate
