Namibia declined as an attractive mining investments jurisdiction – Fraser Institute The latest Fraser Institute Survey of Mining Companies has found that various African countries, including Namibia, have declined in their investment attractiveness for mining exploration. The Fraser Institute's 2023 annual mining survey, which assesses the impact of mineral endowments and policy factors on attitudes toward exploration investment. The survey responses have been tallied to rank jurisdictions worldwide based on their overall investment attractiveness, the attractiveness of their mining policy, and their geological attractiveness. The International Seabed Authority (#ISA), which is still negotiating draft regulations on deep-sea mining, has already issued 31 licenses for #deepseamining exploration areas. Among them, the three #Chinese #miningcompanies hold five, more than any other mining company in any other country, with a mining area of 23.5 square kilometers. #China hopes to begin mining work as early as next year. According to previous #Russian media statistics, #Russia is in second place with 3 contracts, followed by #India, #Japan and some #European countries with 2 valid contracts each. Since the #UnitedStates has not yet ratified the #UNConvention on the #LawoftheSea, it is currently only an observer state of the ISA. They do not have the right to vote and cannot obtain seabed mining or mining contracts through the organization.
