A very interesting article from the Norwegian Defence Research Institute on the topic of future soldier systems. I remember being part of the NORMANS testing myself, back in 2009. Good times! https://lnkd.in/dhNWsrUg One quote from the project manager in NDMA caught my attention: “It doesn’t help to buy the best here and the best there if the equipment doesn’t fit together. Our goal is to reduce incorrect acquisitions. There have been enough of those” This quote is "center-center". Given the current international security situation, and the urgent need to re-arm and equip our armed forces in a timely manner, we need to step away from national, specialized and time consuming development programs when we can. We should look to the market and our friends & allies, to see how we can draw from each other`s experiences. Rheinmetall together with the German Bundeswehr has since 2006 continuously developed a soldier system for the combined arms combat unit. This effort has generated a substantial amount of institutional experience, derived from years of field testing and operational use together with the German Armed forces. This knowledge and expertise has resulted in the newest generation of the soldier system: Gladius 2.0. Fielded and in operational use today. https://lnkd.in/dzuAkaJd Through close cooperation and open dialogue, I am confident we will identify mutual ground and common interest going forward, to ensure we equip our soldiers for the future.

The US Army has recently laid out the 7 core functions for effective C2. These core functions are "baked into" SitaWare suite right out of the box. This week's core function - a shareable common operating picture (COP). SitaWare deploys a networked COP which can quickly share friendly, enemy, neutral and unknown tracks. SitaWare’s COP allows for common map usage, common terrain data, standard graphics, friendly and enemy Position Location Information (PLI), friendly and enemy Combat Power information, and the integration of Tactical Sustainment tracking. https://lnkd.in/dSgzXC9 #commandandcontrol #c4isr #battlefield #militarystrategy

Navy released the Information Superiority Vision 2.0 - DID CHRISTMAS COME EARLY?! The Navy is at the forefront of digital transformation, and the Information Superiority Vision (ISV 2.0) outlines its strategic goals for modernizing information capabilities AT SCALE! By focusing on Optimize, Secure, and Decide, we're transforming the way we operate and make decisions. Here are some key highlights I took away: Optimize: Streamlining Processes: Eliminate inefficiencies and duplicative efforts by adopting enterprise services "Build or buy once, use often". By leveraging dual-use case commercial technologies the Navy can quickly adopt and scale this capability while investing the funds saved to further other innovative initiatives. Modernizing Infrastructure: Standard software development practices to decouple software from hardware. This enables a rapid "plug and play" approach to retrofit or rapidly modernize warfighting platform capabilities to respond faster than our adversaries can. Secure: Zero Trust Framework: Zero Trust is a mindset, not a prescribed process. This assumes that any device or user attempting to access the network is potentially malicious. This framework involves implementing measures such as micro-segmentation, least privilege access, and continuous monitoring. Cybersecurity Investments: Invest heavily in a common cybersecurity solution to protect our sensitive data and critical infrastructure. This includes hiring top cybersecurity talent (love this call out), implementing advanced threat detection technologies, and conducting regular security assessments. Decide: Adopt Standards/Improve governance: Data cleansing, tagging, and sharing standards. This is an ALL HANDS event regardless if you are in IT or not! Shape Culture: Breaking down IT systems and silos and shifting data mindset to a shared ownership model. Adopt an #API first mentality and be able to get the right data to the right place any time of the day. By building on these three pillars, the Navy is building a more secure, efficient, and effective Navy. BZ to the DON CIO team Jane Overslaugh Rathbun, Justin Fanelli, Bryan Lopez, Darren Turner, Louis Koplin, Scott St. Pierre, and other Navy Leaders for building bridges to connect the Navy at scale as we prepare for future conflict. #ISV2 #Navy #DigitalTransformation #Optimize #Secure #Decide #Cybersecurity #DataAnalytics
