A Halloween Party... in Nigeria?
But Who Are We Really?
It’s funny, almost surreal, but it got me thinking. Sure, I get the excitement around trying out something different,
something that feels straight out of Western culture. But every time we lean further into this,
I wonder: Are we losing pieces of who we are?
This isn’t about being “anti” any culture; it’s about celebrating our own.
We’re in a time where people all over the world are curious about Africa’s authenticity, about our traditions, cultures, and our way of seeing the world.
Meanwhile, we’re sometimes the ones drifting toward theirs.
Halloween, summer, Thanksgiving… all fun, sure,
but at what point does it blur our own cultural lines?
That said, would I attend the party? Probably, for the experience.
But it leaves me asking the bigger questions:
Who is Africa, and are we losing our way?
Are we becoming more western & less... you know... Us.
There’s beauty in the unknown, in the spontaneity of our environment and how it shapes us.
And that's what Africa is & represents, at least to me.
