NASA's plan to replace the ISS with a commercial space station is faltering. This is but another example of how NASA has floundered America's substantial world leadership in human space operations. Yesterday, China launched three astronauts to their new and growing Tiangong space station. After the fiasco of the recent NASA Starliner mission and the apparent decision by Boeing to end its effort to built Starliner, China is now the leading human spacefaring nation! They can build space capsules but Boeing can't! What the heck has the National Space Council been doing since it was reestablished in 2017? These are all examples of clear national space policy failures as well as failures by NASA HQ. #NASA #ISS

🚀 Space nerds unite! 🌍✨ Did you know you can track the International Space Station (ISS) live as it orbits Earth at an incredible speed of 28,000 km/h? Thanks to NASA's tracking tool, you can now literally keep an eye on humanity’s home away from home, floating above our heads! 🌌 🔗 Check it out here: Spot the Station - NASA (https://lnkd.in/g36cWUs) The ISS completes an orbit every 90 minutes, allowing the astronauts aboard to see 16 sunrises and sunsets in just one Earth day! 🌞🌚 📡 But what makes the ISS even more fascinating? Besides serving as a hub for cutting-edge research - ranging from biology and materials science to space technology - it's also a symbol of international collaboration. Scientists from around the world unite for the sake of advancing knowledge and pushing boundaries of what's possible in space. ⚡ Quick ISS Facts: • Altitude: 400 km above Earth 🌍 • Operates with solar panels the size of a football field 🏟️ • Hosts an average of 6 astronauts at a time 🚀 Curious about when it'll pass over your location? Get notified via email or text from NASA and watch it streak across the night sky! It’s one of the brightest objects up there - and no telescope required! 👨🚀👩🚀 Pro Tip: Next time you catch the ISS passing overhead, take a moment to think about how this orbiting lab plays a critical role in the future of space exploration - maybe even our journey to Mars. 🛰️ #SpaceExploration #STEM #SpaceNerd #ISS #TechInnovation #NASA #InternationalCollaboration #STEM

NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration is looking for volunteers to participate in its year-long simulated Mars mission on a 3D-printed habitat based at the agency's Johnson Space Center in Houston. According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, the American space economy is a $211.6 billion industry that’s grown over 17% between 2012 and 2021. When adjusted for inflation, the #space economy grew 11.4% over that period. In 2021, #manufacturing overtook information as the largest sector of the American space economy, bringing in $55.8 billion to information’s $54.8. What are the government’s plans for the space economy and how has it changed over time? As June turns to July, two veteran NASA test pilots are enjoying a slightly longer stay at the International Space Station. This delay in returning to earth will allow engineers to fix problems on their Boeing Starliner capsule, problems that arose on their June 5 trip to the orbiting laboratory. Delayed or not, what is the experience of life like 250 miles above terra firma? Such was the focus of the "Live From Space: NASA Astronauts & Your Work in Orbit" panel at SXSW 2024. In addition to three speakers on-stage in Austin, this session featured a live remote Q&A from NASA astronauts Jeanette Epps and Loral O'Hara. Watch the video of this session via the SXSW YouTube page: https://lnkd.in/gd-9R_3p What excites you most about the various projects in which NASA is currently involved? SpaceX or Blue Origin or someone else -- which of the private space companies has the best vision for the future? How does the addition of new international players change the space game? Speaking proposals about space exploration are a great fit for the SXSW PanelPicker (often these fit into the "2050" track). Please get your interstellar idea for March March 2025 into this interface before the process closes at the end of the day on Sunday, July 21. panelpicker.sxsw.com/about #sxsw, #sxsw2024, #sxsw2025, #space, #spaceexploration, NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration, #creativity, #innovation, #future, Leah Cheshier, Johnson Space Center, Jeanette Epps, PhD, Kristin Fabre, #NASA, #speaking, #publicspeaking, #speakingopportunities, #PanelPicker, #BoeingStarliner

Space exploration and future of the #SLS rocket Eric Berger of Ars Technica expressed doubts on the future of the SLS rocket in a tweet in mid-November 2024: < https://lnkd.in/dNY6-r2F > "To be clear we are far from anything being settled, but based on what I'm hearing it seems at least 50-50 that NASA's Space Launch System rocket will be canceled. Not Block 1B. Not Block 2. All of it. There are other ways to get Orion to the Moon." Futurism provides additional context < https://lnkd.in/eqW-BzMA > about further involvement of the commercial sector. Future orientations of the American space exploration policy remains to be seen, especially toward the #Moon and #Mars. A recent piece in SpaceNews < https://lnkd.in/ghbiUjJX > reviews the current state of Moon commercial affairs: while the private sector is increasingly involved in lunar missions whose frequency keeps accelerating, the main demand driver remains government programs such as #Artemis. Yet, the number of lunar missions in the coming decade will increase, and so will the involvement of the commercial sector. This further warrants an acceleration of responsible #LunarPolicy development. #Space #SpacePolicy #SpaceLaw #SpaceEconomy #SpaceMarket #SpaceIndustry #SpaceSector #SpaceDefense #SpaceSecurity #SpaceOperations #SpaceEnergy #SpaceBasedSolarPower #SBSP #SpaceForAll #SpaceForGood #SpaceForEarth #SpaceMedicine #SustainableSpace

1moThe Space Superhighway concept is something that they should be pushing for instead of wasting more time and money on another ISS. We need outposts and ports to facilitate logistics to establish a presence elsewhere first.
