How I Teach Asking ‘ Building Block Questions vs Getting Information Questions We just completed the Certified Professional Coach journey with a very interesting cohort spanning India, USA, Singapore and Msia. How should professional coaches ask their questions was a hot topic over the 2 exciting days when we covered business and organisational coaching. Summing up the 2 days are: - ask challenging questions vs collecting information. An example is ‘who says so’ vs can u tell me more’? - ask reflective questions vs getting more details. An example is: ‘Is it because you don’t know or you are not afraid’ vs ‘can you elaborate’? - ask questions that are disruptive rather than simply giving in or agreeing to their ideas. An example is: ‘what would you do if you can’t fail’? vs politely ‘nodding the head and not saying a word in response. - ask questions that get deliverables to build a plan vs just getting any answer. An example: ‘what will indicate success’ vs how do you feel about this’? Clients will feel a little uncomfortable with such questions and that’s the intention. Then only will the client make changes in their thinking and become mote accountable to the goal they say they want. Corporate Coach Academy (CCA) Malaysian Coaches
