Effective feedback is essential for growth, but it can backfire if not delivered thoughtfully. Leaders should avoid common pitfalls such as bias, judgmental attitudes, and imposing solutions, while fostering an environment that encourages open dialogue and personal ownership of improvement. https://buff.ly/3BOYLzk #LeadershipCoach #LeadershipDevelopment #ExecutiveCoaching

Can I give you some feedback? These words can create anxiety for both giver and receiver. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Entrepreneur and leadership expert Kristen Hadeed recommends the FBI method: Feelings, Behavior, and Impact. 1. Feelings: Start by sharing how the behavior makes you feel. 2. Behavior: Be specific about the action you’re addressing. 3. Impact: Explain the consequences on the team, project, or goals. Feedback is a gift, we say it all of the time. But how do you package it to be well received? Remember, effective feedback fosters communication, collaboration, and openness. Discover how this FBI method transforms feedback into a powerful tool for growth and collaboration. 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗲𝘁? 30 years ago I was a young, dark-haired, green-behind-the-ears manager. As part of my role, I was asked to perform 'Performance development review' on my team. A PDR at the time was about assessing an employee's progress in the tasks they'd been assigned to achieve for the year. Often, there would be a space to log what development was needed to build the skills needed for next years tasks. The outcome was a list of stuff to do and role-specific training to attend. I found the process a bit unfulfilling for me and often the employees saw it as a bit of a box-ticking exercise. We've come a long way since the 90's. My ears are a lot less green and my hair is a lot more grey. In our research into Motivational Intelligence, we've discovered that this definition of 'performance' only affects 15% of an employee's potential for success. The other 85% is about the mindset of the employee. Simply put, you are more successful if you have a growth mindset. Strong leaders build their own growth mindset by building self-esteem, belief and confidence. They exhibit strong traits in accountability, adaptability, resilience. They take initiative and they show a bit of courage. Strong leaders build a growth mindset in themselves, then encourage others to build their own growth mindset - Growth mindsets create successful people - Put enough successful people in a room, you get a high-performing team - Put enough high-performing teams in an organisation, you get a world-leading business As I developed my management career over those last 3 decades, I increasingly found that good management is much more about growth mindsets than about assessing performance. We now have the science to back that up. The most effective manager/leaders spend around 80% of their time leading mindsets and about 20% of their time managing performance. Unfortunately, 78% of manager/leaders spend too much time on management and too little time on leadership. How much of your time are you spending managing performance? How much time are you spending leading people and encouraging their growth mindset? If you'd like some help with tools and approaches to build your leadership - let me know! Let me know what you think? #leadership #growthmindset #performance
