Headlines are designed to promote a response and often these are driven by a negative event. But often the best thing to do is just ignore them, especially in the world of investments. 📈 Reading the below “headline”, what would be the guess at the FTSE “slump” to promote a noteworthy acknowledgement? -5%? Maybe -8%? Not quite, the article highlights the FTSE 100 fell by -0.5% at opening and the FTSE 250 by -0.2%. 📉 From an investment perspective, these fluctuations are normal on a daily basis in equity components. What’s the lesson? Take headlines with a pinch of salt and don’t worry about what markets are doing (as long as you are in a globally diversified portfolio that is!). Short term fluctuations happen, investing is a long term plan, not a daily short term one.
