What is the impact of the Australian opposition’s nuclear plans?    This article, that summarises a Bloomberg report, puts the scale and costs of the oppositions plans into perspective: 🔴 Even at the scale proposed, nuclear would not materially impact the scale of renewables required, given the retirement of coal-fired power stations and the increased electricity power needs 🔴 The vast majority of coal-fired power stations are scheduled to be retired before the first nuclear plant comes on line 🔴 There would be little impact on the required upgrades to transmission   With this weeks AEMO Integrated System Plan (ISP) outlining net-zero transition plans costing $122bn, nuclear would significantly increase the costs, and do little to impact the required rollout of renewables.    As it stands, and without further detail, there is no credible nuclear plan, and no reasonable basis for the claim that nuclear would cost a fraction of renewables, or reduce power prices. #netzero #netzeroemissions #climatechange #sustainability #leadership #oilandgas #nuclear #renewables

The whole nuclear pitch from Dutton strikes me as a cynical tactic to delay meaningful progress on renewables and sustainable energy.

The big pluses of nuclear power are grid stability and baseload generation. The other point is that after about 16 to 20 years, the energy generated from a nuclear reactor is very cheap, making it very economical in the long term. Renewables are unpredictable, so we still need battery technology to make them work. The only way to get around this problem is coal or natural gas.

On & on this LNP nuclear argument goes! Wasting time & social media space, debunked multiple times by critical studies & allowing LNP to fixate on a 'single issue' election debate when so many other issues remain undiscussed. The debate is done, lets move on please.

Here's an alternative to Dutton Nuclear and an additive to Albanese renewables. Connect and talk about Fusion Energy it requires no nuclear law changes, and development is the same as Nuclear

The main point of the coalition nuke push is to buy more time for the fossil fuel industry, even st the price of imperilling the stability of human's operating environment, by proposing a distant, hypothetical alternative to the obvious real option right in front of us.
