Last week I attended the MIA National Migration Conference in Brisbane. I found the trip served as a valuable opportunity to hear from Assistant Minister and other DoHA representatives to discuss the upcoming and much anticipated changes. In turn they heard our industry opinion on processing times and quality of decisions, turning up the heat! The draft Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) was also a controversial topic. A shorter list is not always a better list, well said Philip Duncan. I anticipate some occupations that have already been cut or will not end up on the CSOL list for the new Skills In Demand visa to be appropriately funneled into other pathways. Working within the Labour Agreement and DAMA space will be in even more demand than it is already, with WA to be the first state offering a state-wide DAMA from 1 July 2024 encouraging regional occupations remain in regional areas as our isolated state is aptly defined. Reminder that as of 23 November 2024 the experience requirement for the TSS 482 will drop from 2 years to 1 year so long as the candidate still meets ANZSCO classification requirements. ANZSCO being reclassified and renamed OSCA 6 December 2024. Will these dates be a catalyst for more changes? Or does the tipped 24 December 2024 sound a little better to the Department to introduce more change? We shall see.
