🏗️ Architecture Backlogs Offer a Glimmer of Stability 🏗️ With an average backlog of 6.4 months, architecture firms are still drawing on pre-planned projects despite a drop in new billings. This backlog serves as a lifeline for subcontractors, providing some stability as they navigate a period of conservative client spending. For trade partners, strengthening relationships and proactive communication with general contractors and architects will be key to securing work in a fluctuating market. #ISEC #AIA #Deltek #webuildforlifesmostimportantevents https://lnkd.in/ga7vA4Vn

Architecture firm billings continued to decline in February, with AIA/Deltek reporting an Architecture Billings Index (ABI) score of 49.5 (any score below 50.0 indicates decreasing business conditions). However, February’s score—up significantly from the previous month's of 46.2—marks the most modest easing in billings since July 2023 and suggests that the recent slowdown may be receding. For the third consecutive month, the Midwest is the only region reporting billings growth.

Architecture billings moderated in October, ending 20 months of declining billings. This is according to the American Institute of Architects, which recently released its monthly Architecture Billings Index (ABI) score for October. ABI data shows that billings increased from 45.7 in September to 50.3 in October. Any score below 50 indicates a decrease in billings. #usgnn #usglass #architecture

The ABI Index for architectural billings was posted for June and I look at it as a leading indicator for future business conditions... And potential cost relief since if design work is slowing... then construction work will slow and that means price relief for developers and tenants. The report is flashing red again this month. Two things popped for me in the report: -Backlog of projects is down to 6.4 months which is the lowest it has been in over 3 years. -The graph below shows the a major drop in firms saying they are understaffed YoY. Help could be on the way for developers struggling to get deals to pencil! #development #construction #CRE https://lnkd.in/gUv8eJPA

This month's report from The American Institute of Architects (AIA) confirms what I am hearing as well as I converse with various AEC firms here in the SE. "Indicators of future work remained generally soft as well, with only slightly more than half of responding firms reporting an increase in inquiries into new work. Firms also reported a decline in the value of newly signed design contracts for the third consecutive month. While many firms still have a healthy backlog of projects in the pipeline, 6.4 months on average, this is the smallest that backlogs have been in more than three years." https://lnkd.in/ekAhuaS6

Duo Dickinson on his full transparency ethic: "Opacity in what real services are provided often results in unbuilt projects, most often due to unexpected costs and clients not fully understanding what we actually do. Since what architects do is based on who we are, my firm offers up a complete description of what we do before we begin work." https://lnkd.in/ex_4SvEM
