Taking it Easy and Giving Back!

After 4 fantastic years at Google and over 25 years in IT, it's now time for me to move on to a new phase in my life. I've decided to retire from full-time work and think more about how I can give back to the amazing industry that has given me so many opportunities. With this in mind, I'm pleased to announce I have joined the board of AbilityNet - a charity that works tirelessly to make the digital world accessible to all. I'm so excited to work with my fellow board members to continue the great work they are doing. I am also happy to confirm that I have been asked to stay on the Board of Trustees of Gresham College for another 4 years - an incredible charity with an absolutely unique role to play in lifelong learning. I challenge anyone to go to the list of live and archived lectures they offer and not find at least one completely fascinating - and once you are in, you will be hooked! And finally, I'm so proud to continue my work with the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists - the combination of charity, industry, education and fellowship is incredibly impactful. There are far too many people to thank for where I am today, so I won't even try - hopefully you all know who you are 😊, but to my colleagues over the years, in particular at SAP and Google, thanks for the ride - it's been amazing!

My primary role is something of a people architect, helping form meaningful interactions between tech and their target audiences.

You can run, Michelle Gurney, but you cannot hide from C2C! A better example of community does not exist. It is so great (and expected) to see you recruited to more community work. Thank you. Thank you. For all you contributed and brought to all of us. Enjoy this lifetime "promotion" that you earned and deserved, BIG TIME!! :)

We are thrilled to welcome you to our board, Michelle! We look forward to collaborating with you and our dedicated board members to further our efforts in creating an inclusive digital environment for everyone. Welcome aboard!

Best of luck on your new adventures! AbilityNet is lucky to have you! As are we at Worshipful Company of Information Technologists! Digital accessibility is such an important issue. I’m proud to have led a digital accessibility program for CIBC working with accessibility consultants and testers.
